Can any of you help me with this one?..... Please!!!

I have Windows Vista with IE7 (Internet Explorer 7). For a few weeks now IE has been either freezing when I try and visit a Flash/Java site or crashing all together. I'm not sure if this is a Java problem or a Flash one or both!

For instance, I like to play 'Yahoo Pool' but I am unable to play at the minute. As soon as I try to login to a 'Room' IE crashes!

I've tried enabling/disabling 'Add Ons' and in some cases this made things very difficult to open, obviously but I had no real joy with Yahoo Pool etc. I've downloaded 'Windows Install Clean Up' and uninstalled Java and re-installed. No Joy! I've Downloaded Adobe Flash Uninstaller and uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash, No Joy! I've downloaded Firefox 6 but the same thing happens. I rang my Technical Help (Dell) on Wednesday in desperation. They tried updating the Bios and Video Card Drivers, No Joy! I was then told I would need to backup and reinstall Windows! Obviously I would prefer not to have to do that. Can any of you guys help?

I'm not sure what you mean by Firefox 6 , as its currently version 3.0.5.

That aside, before we get into sorting IE, can you just open firefox and download flash from here > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Restart FF and try your game again.

There are a host of other things we need to try/look for but try that first to see if it's definitely IE or something else.

A couple of other Q's, did you restart after uninstalling and installing Flash and Java ? Did you clean up the reg after reboot ?

Hi BC,

Sorry about FF. My bad. Its 3.0.4..... My age again!

As for loading Adobe onto FF. I did this this morning but haven't been on since. I just loaded it up and I can now get into Yahoo Pool. However, the following Java window appeared and I had to click OK to get in.

But as I was replying here (in IE) IE crashed? I'd really appreciate your help with this mate as I really prefer IE over FF.

Thanks in advance BC.

EDIT: Wouldn't know how to clean up the Reg etc BC Sorry!

Download Cr@p Cleaner here

Install it , it will drop an icon on your desktop. Run it and let it remove all carp that it finds. Then click on the registry icon on the left and scan for issues. Fix all found.

Try pool again.

Can you link me to the pool game you are trying please.

Sorry Blasp , just had a brain fart. Could you tell me what firewall you have running as well plz

Hi BC. Thank you for sticking with me on this. :)

I should say that Dell Tech Support downloaded something called CCLeaner from FileHippo. Here's a screen shot of it.

He ran that but it didn't impove things. Should I still DL, install and run Carp Cleaner?

I'll post a link for Yahoo Pool in a few mins.

Firewall is McAfee.

EDIT: I think your link to 'Carp Cleaner' is the same product. Is it?

Yep , one and the same application. Did you run the registry cleaner element of that after uninstalling ?

I have had firewalls blocking Flash and Java content in pages before. But link me in and I'll have a look.

By link you do you mean how/where is yahoo pool BC?

If so, I have just tried to login to Yahoo Pool again with FF and the same window that I posted earlier popped up and I had to click OK before I could get access.

For Yahoo Pool, I go here first,

http://uk.games.yahoo.com/online-games/arcade/games_pool.html

Click on ‘Play Pool Online Now’

If you are not logged into your Yahoo account (assuming you have one, its free), then you will need to login. If you are already logged in, just click on a ‘Room’ to see the tables available. Click on a table and start playing.

yup , logged in and playing.

Have you installed anything at all prior to this going t*ts up ? And it is Java , not flash

You didnt say whether you had gone through the registry cleanup element of carp cleaner? I don't think there is a quick to this m8. Uninstall Java , reboot , clean registry with Carp cleaner , reboot. Install Java. Try game again (IE)

Edit. Ignore the 'previous version of Java' message btw .

Are you playing with FF BC? As I say, I can now play with FF but it still crashes IE7.

Ok will try that BC. Thank you for your time. I will post back.

By the way, was/is it Acas you work for BC? I've tried looking for 'Biggest Employment Law etc etc' but there seems to be loads of them claiming 'biggest'.

Anyway, I will let you know how things progress. I note your reply above 'I don't think there is a quick to this'. Do you think I might have to go down the route of Windows Reinstall?

Yup , playing with IE now , which requires plenty of 'Allow popups' blah blah, but yes playing.

Don't think you have much choice but to reinstall Java amigo

LOL... Memory like an elephant mate! No, not ACAS, and not sure I want to divuldge the company here. It's not where I got my IT experience anyway, I had a small IT business for 8 years.
