As title really, anyone here work for British Gas, or have recently been through the recruitment process and got an apprenticeship?

What are te pros and cons?

Few company's will invest as much time and money in your apprenticeship. What you take from it and what you learn will depend upon many factors.

The standard of BG apprentices varies. But the opportunity is their for the right person with the right attitude to learn a great deal and set themselves up with a skilled trade for life (well until NG becomes to expensivski)

i did all my training and still work for bg, in my opinion as with any company ya get out of it what ya put in. some people may disagree but with bg you will get good training, have alot of support and resources compared to going it alone, overall i think its one of the best place's to start.

I have been slected for their hald day training session next week, and if am successful, will start June 1st!!!

I so hope I do, the pay looks good, seems to have many oppurtunities if you want them etc.

Better brush up on the old interview techiques.

in the current climate the training and resources ****ish gas invest in their apprentices is very hard to beat. That said once your qualified they will get their pound of flesh and then some!

As Dave said. . . . . . sell sell sell! (and the odd bodge here, there, and everywhere)

Their apprenticeship will teach you the very basics, your own willingness to learn and the effort you put in will dictate if you survive.

One very good tip; as an apprentice you must do your very best to assist your "buddy" engineer-if you are a pain in the ar$e or get in his way/slow him down he will teach you sweet f.a. A good attitude goes a very, very long way.

same for most companies/professions nowadays I'm afriad.... sure everyone on here who seems to give a crap about their work will agree that the nuggets give the decent engineers a rough ride....

same here except i don't work for BG anymore been independant for 10 years now.

but there are many upsides to BG including regular work / hours

the productivity and "best practice" (best for who?) are catalysts for bodging and mis-selling.

a crap engineer who sells unnessecary upgrades is more valued than an excellent engineer who only sells whats beneficial to the customer.

the system is all wrong. Bg do have some very good engineers but they are outnumbered and slowly being pensioned off. the new breed are a shambles imho.

30K for a average 37 hour week (lot less if you know what your doing). everything supplied . turn a deaf ear to the numpty management an your laughin. Perks are excellent

I know the offical answer to this but does age come into play when deciding who gets the job.

I am almost 26, and worried they might choose someone whos a bit more, erm, mouldable/complying etc.

Any of you guys know people who joined at my age?
