My point is Mickyg, not all Diyers are complete morons, even RGI's have to put their horse out to pasture eventually.
I wrote a tongue in cheek letter to Broag ashing if they would object to me DIYing one of their boilers in my own home.
Times have changed, some combi boilers have heat outputs in excess of 40kW now!
Are you sure you could handle this kind of power?
I understand that British Gas do some excellent discounts for OAPS now if you like I could arrange for a salesman to visit and quote you for an upgrade.
If you do decide to fit your own boiler perhaps you could get them to powerflush the system first, they do give a lifetime guarantee (although that lasts longer for some people than others)

The BBC used to have an entry in the Standing Instructions about "waning powers" ! If somebody was getting a bit doddery but still below retirement age they could be pensioned off on favourable terms to get them out of the way. I never heard of it being used though.
I will test Scruffs competence with a few simple gas questions on the 25th!
