Hi there,

What is the basic method to flush out a central heating system with X800?

Once you have got the chemical in the system is it best circulated at 82C and max pump speed?

How long should it be circulated for?

When you drain the X800, do you refill the system with plain water and drain it again to drain away any remaining loosened dirt?

Thank you for your help

max temp, max speed.
run rads individually for 20-30mins each.
run hot water also on its own 30mins
depending on size of system, 6-10hours total.
continue to flush through with fresh water until water runs clear without sediment. catch some in the palm of your hand, you will see small bits easier.

or even better get yourself one of these

Thanks, I don't think I can afford a power flushing machine just yet.

ISTR someone saying that X800 only needs to be circulated fro two hours.

Any further input appreciated.

2hrs is not long enough. was that one of those people that change a boiler in a day?

You were advised by a pro how to do it, but if it makes you happier: just stick it in for an hour, the system will be brandspanking clean following a quick rinse.

This is what I read:

"i have done the 1 hour with ch at full blast as well. a lot of power flusher are not better then ch pumps anyway"

But I will do it the way you advised me.

Thank you :D

well the 1 hour will do diddly squat and the comment about powerflushers I actually agree with. Loads of sh1te machines about, often called a "junior" or something or other, or sold on ebay. Basically a machine with half the power of a proper one...no point. There's only about 3 or 4 models in the UK I'd actually spend money on. The machine does give you a few other advantages mind you even the carp ones.

What are the machines that you would spend money on?

Norstrom?
Kamco?
Sentinel Jet-flo?

Well, the Norstrom proflush is the best you can get imo. The kamco cf90 is just as good, but i don't think the build quality is as good and plastic bits break. Sentinel jetflush is supposed to be good and i know good engineers who swear by it, so i would be fairly confident with it, and the same to be said with the fernox machine.

Thanks, and I just remembered you said to run the hot water for 30 mins, so if the boiler is a combi do you simply use the hot water for 30 mins?

thats to clean the hw coil and associated pipework. If its a combi then you yes, just run a tap for 15mins, just enough flow to operate boiler, usually about 2l/min. Do this first though, before rads, then repeat with fresh water last after rinsing out rads. Basically to avoid getting any debris from rads caught in plate.

Thanks for all the information.

I need to go and get myself an adjustable spanner.

I know tha kamco gives a decent training session free after you have brought one their machines do the others do the same??
