Today I had the gas disconnected for a repair on the Gas Meter. The engineer turned of our boiler (Valliant Turbo Max 824), and since turning it back on again, it has not produced any hot water / heating.

The lights / display/ igintion switch on the control panel do not work (this may have something to do with the controls being re-routed to a thermostat downstairs - I think this is what an engineer said when he checked it a few months ago).

I have tried turning it off and on again, and each time it makes a short whirring sound like it is trying to re-start, but again no hot water (for the heating or the water)

I have turned off other gas appliances and checked the gas meter, and it doesn't move, so I am assuming that there is no gas getting to the boiler / pilot light.

Also, I do not have a manual for it (we moved into the house in October and the previous owners didn't leave a maunal with it)

It was installed new in 2004

Can anyone please help??

Sounds like an electrical/controls problem if no lights come on at all. If you have a multimeter and are competent working with 230V, you can have a try to see where the power stops, if not, RGI job

Thanks for the suggestion

Had the father-in-law come to have a look at it (who's good with electrics). He's of a similar opinion. The fuses are all ok, but there's just no life in the control panel. Getting a man out to look at it in a few days.

Thanks again

have a PDF of the installers manual if you're interested.. PM me and I can e-mail it to you..

not 100% sure but if this model has the high limit thermostat installed if the o/h stat has gone open circuit then the display on the front will be blank if it has one try resetting it

Hi ColJack

The installer manual would be great. Have e-mailed Valliant for a copy, but not sure how long it will be before they get back.

Am a newby at this, so what does PM mean??

Thanks

Unless they have changed their attitude drastically, they do not email you back.
As far as vailant are concerned, if you want to know something, you can stay on hold for 30 - 60 minutes on a premium rate line. If you don't like that, sort out your own problems.
I have emailed them a number of times with requests for manuals or partnumbers, and never got any response from them.
This is the reason that I, and quite a few others, are now recommending not to choose vailant despite it being a decent quality.
