New wiring installation - using a spare RCD point?

I have a landlords supply cupboard in a room and we need to install a new power socket in there.

Can I just simply buy a new little flip switch unit thing (RCD?), wire the socket to it and plug the RCD into the board?

That constitutes a new circuit which you can't simply do without prior notification to your LABC, it's also something you shouldn't do unless you have a decent level of competency.

A landlords board suggests that this work is not in your own home, so you will need to be insured to do this work, and prove the circuit is safe by issuing the apropriate certificate.

It still applies to commercial properties with dwellings. Things like blocks of flats, or a pub with a flat upstairs for example.

Particularly as it has circuits labelled LIFT No.2, TEMP D/B & BOARD BLOCK B.

It does if there is a dwelling sharing the supply.

Then ask your landlord to do it.

You cannot do it for so many reasons..

.. permission ..
.. insurance ..
.. competence ..

Plus how/where is usage monitored for billing? If you take a supply from that board, will you be stealing electricity?

Plus how are you going to make it safe to work on? Turn the whole thing off? Not sure how the users of Lift No.2 will like that, or the people using the final circuits from the other two sub-boards...
