Internal PIR experiences?

PIRs only work on a change of the thermal image they can "see". No movment and the PIR timer will time out and turn the light out. On stairs this could be a hazard.
As others have said they are not really suitable for domestic internal lighting for room that will be occupied for long periods by people relaxing and not moving around. In bedroom they could easily turn the light on if a restless sleeper moved in their sleep.
I have seen corridors where all doors that opened to the corridor had magnetic switchs that triggered a time switch that turned the corridor lights from dim night light to full brilliance. PIRs had been tried and found un-suitable.

And Ban's ideas on downlighters are well known, we dont need it repeating over and over again on every single downlight thread on the forum, let alone by anybody else!!!
He does, however, contribute a lot of good ideas to the forum, despite his short temper with stupid people. And long may he continue to do so.

I don't think he is the forum expert, although I am impressed at the amount of work he puts into being correct in what he types with regards to verifiable facts.
His views he is entitled to. That he is passionate about downlighters and some other pet hates are of little concern or that he can come across as a bit mean to some people. I think it has little to do with their intelligence perceived or otherwise. Please define stupid? Someone with little electrical knowledge perhaps, I don't think so; there are many posts in which he will guide a complete novice through a course of action (as long as it is within the law).
Most of the what you might call mean stuff tends to be what I call acid drops, that is they are comments designed to elicit a response, I guess they are done really for amusement rather than meanness per se. Some of it is good comedy too. I won't paste any examples
I must say I am surprised to learn that he is not a qualified electrician.
Anyhow if you think I am too much of a fan of his then you should read some of our exchanges.
