In 22 years work, this is the only one of its vintage I've ever seen still in service!

I am awestruck.

Just think, in 20 years time, futureistic sparks will look at pictures of our installations and say
"BLIMEY"

And they'll be arguing about whether if you extend a circuit you have to add an AFCD, and in his final article for Wiring Matters before he retires Mark Coles opines that if you replace a failed lamp you become personally responsible for the integrity and safety of the entire grid.

That fusebox is 78 years old. I know this because the old gent's family has lived in that house since it was built (1899) and they kept the chitty!!

It has a mixture of fabric- and lead-sheathed cable connected to it. I think the lead-sheathed is a later 1940's addition. It feeds a 15A socket!!

Cowboys back then? Surely not! Yee-hah!!

I found a load of that lead sheathed cable in my house, it was in surprisingly good condition, certainly better than the VIR stuff that was more recent.

Lovely pic too, nice to see the old stuff.

I once saw an article somewhere about using the lead from offcuts of cable to pour your own junction box enclosures
