Hi everyone, just hoping for some advice from the experts.....

I currently have a very old (circa 30yrs) system boiler with hot and cold water tanks in my 1 bedroom ground floor flat. I'm planning to replace this with a combi boiler in the next few weeks, my question is really around the size of boiler I should have fitted.

Although it's only 1 bedroom, my flat is a decent size with 6 rooms and a central hall. There are currently 6 radiators and I'd like another one fitted. There's a single bathroom and the only other sink is in the kitchen. I measured my mains water flow rate at 20 litres a minute (I filled a 15l bucket in 45s). The boiler will go in the dressing room, just off the bathroom.

The plan is to get the boiler and central heating sorted then redo the bathroom, fitting a very good walk in shower run off the combi. Love a good shower :)

I really want to make sure I get good hot water flow rate for the shower with the boiler I fit. My heating engineers have recommended the Worcester Greenstar 28i or the Alpha CDC28c. They have also suggested the Worcester 30cdi but say they normally fit this in larger detached properties and it might be too powerful for my flat.

I'm inclined to go for the 30cdi but am not sure if having something too powerful causes its own problems? What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered,

Jen

Well, it's only 2kw more than the 28i.
The price difference is minimal. It is a slightly better built boiler. worth the extra I would say.

INTERGAS 30/36. 30kw for heating and 36kw for DHW. perfect solution. it also sets its self up re PRE heat for DHW and fully modulates down for heating.

You should be eligible for the £400 boiler scrappage!

If showers are your priority then I would recommend a 35 kW boiler for DHW. As they do not modulate down so well thats slightly less efficient on CH though.

Thanks Tony, unfortunately I live in scotland so am apparently not eligible for the scrappage scheme. Thanks for the advice though.

The news says that Wales and Scotland will be putting together similar schemes.

I do have to say that annoyed me because I believe that the whole of the UK should have the same laws, taxes and benefits.

Ask your installers what hot water flow rate the recommended boilers give.

Just fitted one of these in exactly the same type of property as yours.

http://www.avantarange.com/28c.html

Its a 28kw, but gives 13 litres per min hot water flow, which is ample for a Niagara type shower!

Also, 5 yr warranty, proven components and very quiet.

Either you have a very special boiler or you have conned the customer!

As with all other 28 kW boilers, it only gives 11.5 li/hr even according to the manufacturer's own specification !

As you are in Bristol, whats happened to Chris Hutt ?
