hi, i've just got a new washing machine which only uses a cold feed, whereas the previous one had a hot and cold. The isolating valve on the hot has a very slight drip now that i've closed it off, so i want to cap it off. Is that possible, is there a large enough 'cap' to do that? It looks like its about 27mm?!

Or is there a better / more sensible way to do this job?

Ta!

Sorry, should have checked the forum more thoroughly...

Forgive me for being a div, but isn't this a 3/4" cap and its too small. Or should I be fitting it at the pipe end?!

Don't be fooled by the quoted sizes like 1/2 in or 3/4 in.
These refer to the bore size of iron pipe from years ago, not the diameter of the thread

Should go on the valve, you may have a 1/2", hard to tell from here, but standard washing machine valves are, and as far as I know always have been, 3/4", so a 3/4" cap should fit

I like the way the plumber couldnae be bothered changing the red handle for the blue but instead has wrote a label which prob took as much time than to change the handle

3/4in bore pipe gives thread diam = 1.041ins
7/8in bore pipe gives thresd diam = 1.189ins
1in bore pipe gives thread diam = 1.309 ins

OK, you all say the 3/4" will fit, but as you can see from the first picture the 3/4" cap i have is far smaller than the connection I've removed. (both shown side by side in top pic). No amount of ptfe tape is going to change that.

I think at least some of us are reasonably unconvinced that what you have actually is a 3/4" cap, but if you're sure it is then you probably have a 1" thread (never seen one but I suppose it's possible), in which case go out and buy a 1" cap

Have you actually tried to screw it on?

If it doesn't fit it cannot be 3/4"BSP, maybe 1/2". Look at the measurements quoted above, and boring they may be, but will answer your question

Yes of course i've tried to screw it on!! :D Its farrrr too small.

Just to be clear, i'm trying to fit this cap to the part of the isolating valve that once was attached to the red plastic washing machine hose. As you can see in that top pic, that is about 1" in diameter, the cap i was advised to get at the plumbase shop is about 22mm wide.
