TT earthing

hello all,

Will be undertaking a consumer box change shortly after i have done a periodic inspection. I cannot see any evidence of a distributers earthing so decided to investigate possibility of a TT system. Getting below 100 ohms ze, which sugests TT, but cant find where the earthing electrode is, main earth disappears into the structure of the building which suggests embedded steel is being used.

Would think it would be necessary to add a rod, of use the existing earthing arrangment??

Will be adding 30ma rcd protection for circuits and 100ma delayed rcd for distrubution.

cheers

If you want to go the TT route, add a rod. You can't rely on what you can't see.

As said I suppose you could bang a rod in, test this rod (and make sure it complies in isolation) then connect this and the existing unknown rod to the MET.

cheers. thought that would be the best option!!! just a pain to do as for some strange reason the main incomming supply and meter is in a loft room!!!

I had that the other week, three story staggered house on a hillside. Gas meter was on the front wall, electric upstairs at the back of the house, gas bonding was a right *******!!!

Could you run pvc conduit down the outside in parallel with a drainpipe etc?

yeah i think ill probably do that....oh dont talk to me about the bonding, same thing as you both water and gas need bonding and of course they couldnt be further away from the met!!

You could have it in series if you wanted it poking up 15foot into the sky above the drain pipe ;)
