What has happened to all of the political placards that used to be festooned on all the lampposts?
Normally, during this stage of an election you couldn't drive anywhere without the speed limit signs etc being obstructed by political placards adorning the posts along the road.
It was almost as though the party activists believed that if there were more placards for their party we'd be persuaded to vote for them.

Have the LAs decided that it's now illegal or have the parties decided that it was wasted resources?
Or have they all been going round at night taking down their opponents placards?

The spectre of Health and Safety looms large.
Many towns won't allow christmas decorations strung from lampposts for similar reasons.
Bring back sanity.

I drove through a Council Estate and there were 'vote labour' signs everywhere. I went into the country and all the rich farmers have massive 'vote conservative' signs in their fields. That really just convinced me that voting for either was a bad idea - so I'll vote Lib Dem instead.

I can't say that I miss them. It always annoyed me that after the election the parties weren't bothered about taking them down

Any advert (for whatever reason) on street furniture is illegal and in my locality can get you fined 2k a day per sign.

A lot of people have them in their gardens round our way. I have mine too.

Think they are spending all the money on mailshots instead. The amount of crap that's been coming through my door these past few weeks... Goes straight in the bin although most of it seems to come from the party I am most likely to vote for.

I remember in the 70's when I could first vote in elections. A local election was coming up and one of our neighbours was a councillor.
He came to our door one day when my parents were out, asked for them to talk about the forthcoming election. When I told him they were out , but I was old enough to vote now, he told me this was adult stuff and he didn't have time to talk to me.
Pffftttt. Lost my vote there and then.

some of them are so big,i wonder if planing permission was sought?

Spot on.

Same here too. I had not noticed about the signs but it probably is a cost cutting measure as usual. :D

It is a legal requirement for them to be taken down within 14days of the poll closing - not that that makes any difference!

There are loads of them around us - as Joe said, almost all in Farmers' Fields and instructing people to vote conservative. I also noticed that the Conservatives have changed one of their billboard adverts in our local town three times during the course of the election campaign - that seems like a waste of money to me? although it is good to see the back of Brown's big beaming face as I drive down the street!

Same here, helps get the log burner going though with the rest of the junk that comes through the letter box and the bills
