That's an Aerjec.I'm at work so can't give you the real image but it's this type
Is it just that the connections are as shown? Or is the Aerjec also physically oriented as shown in the diagram (vent at the top)?
More likely that you are getting pumping over - water comes out of the vent pipe hanging over the F/E tank. You can check this visually.Could the system be flowing back up the feed pipe when the pressure gets too high

The Aerjec sometime blocks up. You can check this with a magnet.
The scum is from the inside of the radiators. It is getting into the tank either up the feed pipe or through the vent (pumping over).Does the scum on the feed tank give you any indications?

The presence of the scum indicates that there is air in the system and either insufficient inhibitor or may be none.
1. Let the system cool down
2. Tie up the ball valve or turn of the supply to the valve.
3. Remove the scum
4. Bail out the tank with a jug or similar
5. Use rags/sponge to remove any sludge in the bottom of the tank.
6. Open the tap/release ball valve
7. Set motorized valves to MAN
8. Open the drain taps (usually on ground floor rads) and let clean water flow through the system until the water coming out of the drain taps is reasonably clean
9 Close all drain taps
10. Add a can of Sentinel X400 system cleaner to the tank
11. Tie up the valve.
(You will need two people for this bit)
12 Drain water from the system via a drain tap until the level in the tank is just above the feed pipe at the bottom
13 Untie the valve
14 Set motorized valves to Auto
15 Start the system and run as normal for about four weeks

Yes.I now have a Fernox magnetic filter in the system (at the same time as the powerflush). This enables me to easily add Fernox treatment. Can Sentinel can go in the same way?

Don't be so hard on yourself; it was only unnecessary quoting...Any more thoughts on the scum?
