The Beatles? I may be from a different era, but I cannot see what the interest in them was. Some of their music is awful, some is ok. SORRY!

My pal conny won't like me for saying it but they were overrated in my opinion.

I've seen Clapton in concert and have seen Ginger Baker (when he had the Baker Gurvitz Army band) In the early to mid 70's I saw Wishbone Ash, Status Quo, Rory Gallagher, Ten Years After, Bowie, YES, Deep Purple. Roy Wood amongst others.

Great Times. ;) ;) ;) ;)

the beatles are just an early boy band. they only got interesting when they started taking loads of drugs.

Sorry to disappoint you Blas.
I quite agree.
They had some good ones and some awful ones.
What you have to remember is the style of music in that era.
Its no good comparing their style with the likes of Clapton, Quo, Queen etc as it was totally different.
However, if you compare it to other groups from that time such as The Searchers, Billy J. Kramer etc they weren't that outstanding. As someone else said, they were an early 'boy band'.
The other thing I think which gave them 'credibility amongst youngsters was their involvement with the Maharishi and drugs. They were seen as rebels which would appeal to a lot of youngsters at that time.

dont you just hate history revisionists...............

The Beatles revolutionised music. They took the rock and roll of the 50's and turned it into the pop of the 60's. The beatles changed everything about music, from the way it was made to the way it was marketed. they invented so many things that changed the music industry, quite frankly its gets tedious to list them, from multitracking to the use of innovative instruments, from the Sitar to the Picollo Trumpet.

They saved Classical Music from the hole it had dug itself into by using classic music devices like the Aeolian Cadence and classical instrumentation, and they became the brand leaders of the Swinging Sixties and as such, had vast and profound influence over art, music, fashion, design, culture and society.

They profoundly changed the attitude of the western world, and helped transform 50's Rebellion in 60's Protest.

The Beatles were a paradigm shift in culture and a turning point in western cultural history, there influence on popular music was still reverberating in the 1990's.

Without the Beatles., and there effect on 60's musical culture, there would not have been Progressive Rock, Glam Rock, Punk, and all the other genres that followed as a result.

Without the Beatles we would have not had the Brit pop boom and other boy bands such as oasis, suede ect would have never had an influence to try and emulate for this to happen. The Beatles are responsible for so much, their creativity is amazing, you can listen through their albums and hear them transform, with a personal peak/ boom from the revolver album onwards.

That top ten isnt my top ten but I dont think I have a Beatles song I dislike.

This is only my opinion, some people will gladly buy Now 73 or an album of an x factor contestant, but not me.

This is not really a discussion atall is it?. Apparently, the Beatles are the best band ever. Dont question it, just agree.
