Met a pest control bloke today who reckoned that squirrels gnaw through Polypipe / Hep etc.

Is this something that we in the plumbing industry should be worried about?

Are you trying to gas the squirrels?

Have tried to solder onto polypipe - it works a bit and you don't need any solder, the pipe melts onto the fitting. Probably best do this only for a gas line as the presure is lower.

good point, hadn't thought about the low pressure making it a lot safer  ;)

i've replaced some chewed pipe under park homes, but very rare, and on those its easily accessible to all rodent life lots of plastic pipe for them to feast on, so I dont think its a big issue. I wasn't however there at the time of the incident taking place to identify said rodents !

i replace a reasonable amount of chewed plastic. housing estates in the middle of fields with plastic pipe, not a great idea.

smear peanut butter on the electric cables will stop them way before they start on the pipes

I worked on a house in Wimbledon that had the top floor burned because of squirrels chewing through electric cables, apparently they are attracted by the "sound" of the current going through the cables,so dont need peanut butter smeared on them.
It might be better to put the butter on the plastic pipes,so the house gets wet but without being burnt first?

You could argue that the house caught fire due to dangerous wiring. If it had been wired properly, all that would have happened was a popped fuse/breaker.
No such protection on water pipes.

Squirrels are no problem generally.
This what you have to watch

Well done, you pathetic simpleton. I was reading this with kids in the room.
You must still think that shouting out naughty words is funny. Grow up.
