ONE YEAR TO GO !!!!!!!!!!!

On Thursday it will be exactly one year until the Olympic games commence in London.

It should be a brilliant spectacular. I am sure London will do us proud.

I wish I could be there.

Singularly unimpressed.

I cannot believe you wrote that. The Games will be a fantastic event for the whole country - something maybe we can actually be proud about.

Ya wonderful.
I got the cross country cycle track near me, now they think they can take over the whole park.

Nope.
Still unimpressed. I don't buy into all the jingoism that comes with events like that. We'll be paying for it for years to come.

How will it be fantastic for the whole country?

We'll be paying for it for years to come.

We will be paying for the Bankers fool hardy games for an awful lot longer - for the rest of our, and probably our kids, lives.

How will it be fantastic for the whole country?

I suppose it all depends on whether you are one who considers their glass to be half full or half empty.

Holding the olympics in East London could be confusing at the start of track events. ''Was that the starting pistol, or just a drive-by?''

So it's just another dran on our limited resources. I'd wager most, North of Brum will never benefit from it.

Nothing to do one's general outlook.

Although i am interested in what you think the benefits for the whole country will be.

The country has suffered already for the Olympics and will continue to do so for a long long time.
Same as the royal wedding , we w2ere told it would help the economy but in fact , according to a show on radio 4 this morning,it actually had an adverse effect on the economy.

Being thrown a feckin bone now and again does not a fat dog make, or something.

As far as throwing our tax money at it is concerned, we shouldn't be paying for it at all. Those of us who have other hobbies and interests don't get millions in handouts from the government for us to follow our pursuits, so what makes sport so special?

It's not an essential service, it's an amusement - Let those who want the Olympics in London, or any other sporting event for that matter, raise the money to pay for it as the rest of us have to do for our interests.

Heard that one myself, as if one extra bank holiday can really slow the economic growth , and only last week they were still blaming the heavy snow for exactly the same thing

But, back on topic, I don't really think it will benifit the country at all. Like all olympics there will be large incomes from TV rights but on balance it will cost more than it brings in. I'm a firm believer that the olympics should have a permanant home in the shadow of mount olympus and be funded by all participating countries so that after the initial building costs it just comes down to a much smaller maintaince bill.

If you feel that strong & proud of it why won’t you be there? I lived & worked in Seoul City through a 2 year run up (huge digital back counting clocks & all) & 3 year after fall of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. All the locals I knew & worked with were so proud, the ever increasing anticipation & excitement, they just couldn’t wait. After was the reality that practically none of them could afford the tickets let alone even get hold of them & then there was the huge debt the average tax payer was saddled with for years afterwards.

We got the 2012 Olympics, big deal, so what; I don’t much like field sports, gymnastics, swimming or even football that much so the sooner it’s over with the better as far as I’m concerned; a total load of "turn off" crap which a very few will make millions out of (including UK committee officials) & which I will ultimately end up paying for; & those that actually manage to get tickets will pay even more!

I hope its a massive flop

No-one outside London has benefited from this charade, but lots of money has been diverted from around the country to it

So everyone outside London has already lost out, so a flop wont affect us in the slightest - but then we can all have a laugh at the idiots who procured and organised it

Let those who want the Olympics in London, or any other sporting event for that matter

Most of us if not all never asked for it. Immigrent workers, ****e wages. Transport systems not wanted/needed to be disbanded after.
The debt caused, should have gone "oop north" as you lot always complain about London and its monolopy on things.

Roads to be closed off for the odd car, industry will suffer far worse than a 3 week strike!

The thing that makes me laugh is the attitude of some of the athletes. Some of them think that because they're up all hours training that the rest of us somehow owe them something. As in the "I'm trying to win a medal for Britain" kind of thing. Like fck you are, you're trying to win a medal for you, so you can get some nice contracts and a cushy job on the telly. When you think how much money has been thrown at this crap, and then hear people say it will be worth it if we win so and so many medals. Who are they trying to kid? by and large the average person doesn't care less about track and field events and all the other minority sports that go on, so why would I care if we win medals in all kinds of obscure sporting events. In the meantime prices are going up relentlessly while wages either stagnate or come down, and the country squanders billions on staging this phoney drug riddled spectacle.
