Poetry, Music, Books and all things good....

Wow! How fantastic tp have mallards in your garden. :D

They come every year, but we don't let them nest as they wouldn't be able to get the babies out...they just fly in, potter about and have a swim..... must admit they do look good in the garden.

I used to work for a couple at their house in Kent and they also had ducks in their garden. Every day at the same time, the whole lot of them, mum, dad and all the babies would come into the kitchen (in a line), get fed by the wife and then all pile out again. :D :D

Sounds cute squeaky.

Just been to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at the cinema..and thoroughly enjoyed it...superb cast, including Judy Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, its very well written ...both poignant and amusing.
Probably not so much for the younger generation...but if you are heading for retirement it will I am sure ring a few bells.....if you like a light-hearted fun film you will really enjoy it....very much recommended.

i was thinking of going seeing that film.....but if its one for the oldies....ill give it a miss.

I seem to agree with the general consensus judging by the reviews...here is one from The Telegraph.

The case to be made for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is that it addresses a sector of the cinema audience – the over-50s – routinely overlooked by the film industry.
.......it’s sweet-natured, good-hearted and decent.

Hello everybody. I hope you don't mind me posting in here. I should really post this in General Discussion but this seems to be a friendlier place.

I've been watching two bright objects in the sky recently just before sundown. I think the brightest one is Venus and it was close to the new moon tonight. The other one is a bit higher up. It looks like they're getting lower in the evening sky each night so here's the question. Does anybody know which one will get there first? Will Venus disappear first or, if I wait long enough, will they appear to 'bump into each other'?

Hi there ...apparently...

For much of the world, the moon and Venus – the sky’s brightest planet – will pair up closest together for the month this evening (Saturday, February 25). Depending on where you live, you may even see the moon and Venus – nighttime’s brightest and second-brightest heavenly bodies, respectively – taking stage within a single binocular field of view. And to triple your pleasure, look for the third-brightest heavenly body of nighttime – the planet Jupiter – above the moon and Venus....

They'd look better in the oven with a plum sauce on the go! yum.

Well what can I say? My initial reaction was a howl of indignation.   But then I remembered that I ate a bit of a turkey last night and had two sardines for breakfast --

Really enjoyed it susiejb. Thought the acting was great and a good story too.

I tell you what else I really enjoyed- because, as mentioned earlier, it appeals mainly to the older viewer, there was complete silence in the cinema, no mobile phones buzzing, no noisy smelly pocorn and no one coming in a late after the film had started.
:D :D :D

Thats good to hear..yes it was a really nice light-hearted fun film.

Hopefully finding time this weekend to read...just getting into 'The Help' and its looking good...I downloaded it on to the ipad...its not quite the same as reading proper book somehow...the Kindle is probably better as its smaller.

(a confession....I rather like popcorn :))

When I first started this section I started it with a poem and said it was a risk...this is another favourite of mine ..... I hope you enjoy it.
