As a Diy'er you'll get all the information you need after about 5 posts

As a semi pro, competant person, you'll get joy uptil about 10 posts.

As a professional tradesman, you may get blurry eyed at 15 posts.

As a real intellect you may want to reach for the low energy lamp switch beside the bed at 20 posts.

After 25, it becomes, off topic, with posturing.

There are other creatures.

those who need to help others, despite the horrible dissent.

the blind leading the blind

the gas engineers who try to prove something

the paranoid

And the amazingly experienced, who, despite my efforts to understand all their advice, information and expertise, could make me live my life on google, wikipedia and searching for more courses on infinate topics
and qualifications
Its worth the read up to 30 posts , for me, for now.

Good observation, although some don't even make the 5 post mark. Depends if the pragmatists get in before the paranoid hysterical.

Think how many posts die in a hail of 'Part P, Building Control, illegal, testing etc. etc.' bullets!!

And the ordinary punter simply marks this off as one of the less helpful forums, goes off to Screwfix, Ultimate Handyman or worse still rigs up some deathtrap in his own home.

Those who look around a bit before posting and clock the above are belittled into lying about 'faux inspections' or 'mates who are electricians' in a desperate attempt to get an answer, but usually end up in some kind of Orwellian vortex of accusation and counter-accusation.

Is this off-topic in a thread to discuss the off-topic???

Think sometimes people have different copy and paste options stored ready to reply to certain posts.
