My son in now 18 months old and is a vegan.

Wonder what people think about it.

Mine are teenagers and would kill me if I did that to them.
Let the little one grow as nature intended and let him choose when he is older.
As always with this discussion we were meant to be omnivores.

I'm surprised they haven't killed you anyway.

There's no proof for such a narrow minded view.

I do let my kids make their own mind, my girls eat meat.

The omnivore argument is very weak since evolution didn't intend us to eat large amounts of meat and I would expect everyone to eat it raw. We evolved when we needed to eat what was around but still our bodies only produce a certain amount of digestive enzymes in a life time. The cooking process alone kills off these enzymes and our bodies have to work over time to produce them to digest our food. This causes health problems.

It's an ethical thing for me.

Actually my sons love me

But I am going to now add a balanced view. Unashamedly stolen from another site.

Cows have several stomachs so they can eat grass. Humans can only digest the grass we eat (wheat and other grains) when cooked, which is something humans have been doing for thousands of years.

Wolves and other pure meat eating species have special types of teeth we don’t have. Similarly, we don’t have the types of teeth and the intestinal tracks of species that eat only raw vegetable matter. Like cows and horses. The biological argument can go both ways.

As omnivores our biological make up is between that of vegetarian animals like cows and that of purely meat eating species like cats and dogs.

In other words: we get to choose.

We are most biologically in tune with pigs, hence many medical trials on them ( I know another issue, lets stick with this for now). And they eat both when they found it in the wild or are presented with it in farming environments.

So choice is the key word, as I said let the little `un choose when older.

It has nothing to do with choice because a child is dependant on you to make the choice....

It is your choice, no responsibility to give a balanced diet. That would include meat.
I know there is an argument about great athletes being Vegan/Vegetarian but that was after their important growing years in 98% of them IIRC.

Personally my meat/veg ratio is about 65/35, I am a great meat eater, especially breakfast. Meat with every meal, if Ribs ect then the far greater amount. So you see not adverse to veggies. In fact one of my fave home made Chinese meals has very little meat ( Pork Tenderloin, in honey and paprika, mmmmmmmm).

Let him makes his own mind up! Hes only 18 months and not eating meat because you dont want him to.....Forcing your views on him is wrong.

A toddler needs a wide ange of nutrients and vitamins in his early years, I dont think he will be getting all that unless you have spoke to someone about his diet.

Does he a lot of fibre foods?
