New Boiler needed for the sake of 2 rubber seals?!

I have the correct valve on my BG van, with seals in the box. Thats how they come, the valve is taped to the box and the o-rings and replacement pilot nuts electrical cover are in a small plastic bag.

We do indeed stock the O-Rings and Valve.

Hi Tom

Glad to see and know we 'have a gud un' on this patch ;)

Mine was just as you discribe minus the o-rings

Since the engineer would get a commission for arranging a new boiler quote, could he have removed them to 'create' a new boiler requirement?

You can see BG on Rogue Traders this week on Thursday evening for doing something like that!

Any BG engineer that charges a customer £99 for batteries is not doing his best for his customers.

There are many ways to get round the O-ring issue. Poor show indeed.

I expect the £99 is in the T&C so has to be applied!

I expect it was FXP which makes it difficult.

Ach I shouldn't slag off the SG/BG CPSs too much. My wee mate Chris let me borrow his FGA the other day when one of ours was on the blink.
See you down the Lodge later mate & I'll buy you that drink.......... ;)

Dictomatic - a Derby based company main office europe. But it migt well be worth talking to Eddie Dictomatic Derby - You should be trade though...
A company in Loughborough also do thousands of seals for industry.

On the whole it can be found that the specification outperforms the ones fitted at manufacture due to the advanced technology these days. Look at viton it stands 350 deg C and is one of the main 'rubber' components in vehicular seals these days. Manufacturers would not use it however in Boiler seals cause of the expense but use it since it came out and so long as the Boiler's sections were sound they never leak again.

Sorry the name escaped me Rhondama of Loughborough ---many many different seals of many many materials.... MOTO - iF A BOILER'S NOT LEAKING WATER IT CAN BE REPAIRED......

substituting gas critical seals without manufacturer approval is nuts, if something dries and shrinks due to being an incorrect size / material and then leaks thats RIDDOR reportable.

It's all hunky dory when their are approved seals for the job ;) I've got a couple of trays full of different compound seals for the job required.

Pretty dumb to fit a washer or seal thats not approved :)

BG engineers have a powerful aid in their laptop, it's knowing how to use it thats the trick. Sometimes if you search GC number to a similar appliance you can find that part you need, our parts help desk are pretty hot on the required parts too.

C'mon, it's only a low gas pressure seal, don't be a jobsworth for christ sake. There plenty of gas pipe fittings only held together with flux or threads with a smear of Bosswhite.

For you BG guys, it just a 'cover your a.se' culture, we work in the real world where the customers keeps a roof over our heads.
