New Boiler needed for the sake of 2 rubber seals?!

We all know of examples of BG scaring OAPs into replacing a perfectly good boiler, which is plain shocking!!

Much as I'm sure OAP's appreciate being patronised, some of the poor old things can actually decide for themselves how they spend their money.

While I can understand that it's always open season on a large company like BG. But if you're a BG employee mate I'd question your moral views of your employer's customers??!! If I were BG management reading this thread, I'd be very worried about the view of my staff when dealing with elderly customers & dearly hope this wasn't the cultral within my company.

I don't have a view of 'elderly customers' mate, or ethnic customers, female customers, young customers, male customers, straight and gay customers etc. I meet each individual, chat to them and then have a view of them as a person.

P-pablo, thanks for you honest & frank post.
But your left-wing 70s style 'them n us' views of your employers is complete drivel!! It's the BG staff at the 'coal face' that are too blame.

You come across as if you view the elderly as 'fair game'!!

Then I can only apologise for not expressing myself very clearly, I don't organize any people into a generic category.

Thanks for clarifying that mate, but is there a culture within BG to rip off OAP??? Or go the extra mile for their elderly customers??? Because there's very damning evidence out there of the former.

Absolute basic job and repair no wonder BG`s name gets dragged through the mud are the the engineers really that stupid now or is it purely pound signs in front of there eyes.
O rings are in the honeywell boxes and very rarely needed so he should have loads as spares from previous valve changes that didnt require them

I think bgs customer base is in an upper age range so when things go wrong it is likely to affect 'elderley customers'. If I think someone needs a family member with them to make a decision I will tell them, but as I said before it's case by case. I put a lead through for a quote on roughly 1% of visits I make but I can only really tell you what I see with the guys I work with.

namsag I think those seals have only been in the box for the last year or two haven't they?, I did a 4600g.v on some old baxi o/f thing the other week and was surprised to see them in the bag with the cover in.

Ollski been in some of the boxes for 20 plus years depending on the valve

strange, i've never seen them in a valve before and I always used to silicone grease and reuse the old ones, but the last valve I used they were in there.

Any boiler that used valves with flanges ie apollo, feulsaver and the likes always came with the new seals in the box when valve ordered as manufacturers part number.
Laterly they started coming with valves that could be used on both flanged and screwed connections

Thanks again for that, you clearly have the elderly customer's best interests at heart.

To be fair there are plenty of BG lads not clever enough to cross reference the part number with another boiler or part number.

That being the case its not beyond the capability within BG to note against an unlisted part that the same part is available on another make/model.

The system already does this for you but it only lists the same GC or maybe the same manufacturer number.

If you want the same part from a different boiler manufacturer you have to look yourself which in turn means you have to have a good knowledge of boilers that may use the same part. Thermistors are a good example, many manufacturers use the same ones but all have different GC numbers.

Sadly the new software for looking up parts is **** and doesn't allow you to have more than one page open at a time.
