The afghan police are well infiltrated by the taliban so no surprise.
As "lost causes" go this one takes some beating.

But we knew that before we went - the Russians could have told us.

They are a nation of mercenaries and will switch allegiances at the drop of a turban.

Tony Blair had a vision that he could change the world and make it a safer and more peaceful place.

"Knowing" the facts should never get in the way and compel one to suppress the divine intervention of such glorious "visions".

Isn't it time to bring the troops home? No-one even knows why they are there. As soon as they pull out everything will be as it was 10 years ago.
So what's the point?
We'll never get the truth anyway but I reckon it's to do with the construction of the oil pipeline

I believe it's to do with protecting the opium growers, we can't have our supplies drying up, there are too many infulential drug barons in this country to allow that to happen, to much money to be lost.

nuke it simples

The value of one nuclear missile is roughly eight times the value of Afghanistan.... We'd be paying millions to rearrange a pile of rocks. To make things worse, I suspect that just like cockroaches, Afghanis are immune to radiation and so will carry on regardless...

I never had and still have no doubt that if we stay in Afghanistan, and take the mission to change the gan seriously, we can change if for the better.

But it will take 2 or maybe 3 generations (50-100 years) to do so, something we were never committed to.

So yea, out we come.

Australia is one of the biggest producers of legal Opium and opiates if not the biggest. The Opium grown in Tasmania, Australia is bought by the pharmaceutical market to be turned into medicinal drugs like morphine. The Opium crop brings Tasmania millions of dollars every year and is an important industry for the island.

Do you actually have any evidence that this drug money is getting into the hands of decision makers about the war?

Considering those same people spend stupid amounts of money then stopping it getting into the country.
