Baxi Brazillia F8S taking too many attempts to ignite

This one is under warranty (and only 4 days old!) but am interested to hear what generally causes these to not ignite from cold until several attempts have been made. Installer has been out twice, you can see the piezo igniting, opened the heat exchanger and cleaned burner with a soft brush but all to no avail. As I said, more curiousity than anything, more because I seem to read a lot of stories about these failing to ignite Our 1994 version was faultless until a month ago when it too failed to ignite....

Why not just get Baxi out on a warranty call?

That is what I intend to do next. Except Baxi no longer make/maintain their gas fires. It's Glenn Dimplex. Called them out anyway.

Baxi themselves I've contacted Glen Dimplex anyway, they're sending out some parts and the number of their approved engineer to fit them.

Just to go back to this, I've now had 3 calls outs for this. One was to change the route of the spark electrode, one was to replace the electrode itself and still this persists. The engineer came again earlier this week, with his supervisor, and they seem to think this is normal. I think this is a load of, well, rubbish to put it politely. Suffice to say, I shall not be buying anything from Baxi/GDC group again.

Is the symptom "it will not ignite atall" or does it light and will not "hold" its flame when the control knob is released ?

It takes several attempts to ignite from cold. It usually will stay alight but even that sometimes requires more than several attempts of igniting and holding knob in for 20 seconds. The engineer was a prat. He and his boss were saying how his own Baxi at home (in a bathroom!) takes 8-9 attempts to ignite too and how a thermocouple on these has never needed replacing in his 24 year career repairing them.

The case is on right - I've checked that myself by the way.

I too have the same heap of junk and have had engineers out but in order that I get an engineer I had to have the original installer call and be paid. The gas lights momentarily and goes out while the knob is held so it cannot be the thermocouple . the bypass valve has been replaced but to no avail. I am reluctant to send for engieers yet again like yourself Farr
