who are these people that can do this ?

judgement is arbitary, flawed and the legal system is an ass. personally i'd put the judge in jail for 5 years, for abuse of a position of authority, see how he likes it.

if he received any sort of sentence say suspended does it mean a dishonourable discharge anyway, with his wife asked to leave the army house?

If you support the current gun laws, I don't see how you can argue against this sentence.

A gun is a gun, the law is the law.

You can argue against it if you believe, as medical specialists do, that he was unaware of owning it.

Luckily the judge can see that that is a lie. He's trying it on - won't work. He's like a diving footballer - and the ref has sussed him.

That would still not justify acquitting him. The law is the law and supposedly applies to everyone, regardless. The sentence, however, is a different matter and does seem unduly harsh in the light of the scant published details.

A Glock 9mm is hardly a toy, nor is it an old weapon having only been created in the early 1980s. It is a very effective and accurate tool designed with the intention of killing, especially in the wrong hands. Someone who could so easily forget that he possessed such a weapon or where it is should most certainly not be permitted to keep firearms in the UK

Squaddies have this drummed into them never to bring anything like this back its a really basic thing that is not an over sight or mistake . All ammunition even blanks have to be accounted for this is something they learn in the first few weeks so experienced sqaddies should know better unless?

It reads as though he left Iraq in 2007 after some buddies died, his gear was packed up in 2010 by mates back in iraq, was unopened and stored at a soldier mates house, some domestic there involved the police and thats when the gun was found !

he didnt even bring it back to the uk !!!!

Guns are illegal.

Drugs are illegal.

"oh, I forgot I had it guvner"

If you agree with gun laws, you should agree with this sentence, or you are just being a hypocrite.

Makes you feel proud, when your country jails a war hero fighting for his country....but lets free people who are a threat to society :?

Yes but the guys a soldier and guns are second nature to them, unlike a would be gangsta. If it was left back in iraq, three years later packed up with his stuff by mates, shipped back here where its been in storage unopened course he could have forgotten about it. Only came to light at some friends house (squaddie) after a domestic it can hardly be claimed he was hiding it.

Very easy mistake in my opinion, unlike chavs which may be found having one.

he could have forgotten about it.

Someone used to take E.

Stopped years ago, but forgot about a few pills kept in a cupboard in a bag.

Now a mother with children, sensible with job.

Drugs are found, law is the law, "I forgot" is not an excuse.

You can probably come up with another hundred "what ifs" yourself, "I forgot" is never an excuse, he had it in the first place, he broke the law.

You can't start going "well he's a good bloke", that's just how people with better lawyers get off whilst the plebs get buggered by the system.
