Plane advice please.

Good morning,

I am making a bath panel out of MR MDF, but due to a level bath and a sloping bathroom floor I need to 'shave' of about 5-20mm from one of the long edges. I would appreciate some advice on the following please -

1) Is 20mm too much to plane off (I don't have a circular saw)?
2) Is MR MDF easy enough to plane?
3) Any advice on how to plane the edge of sheet materials?

MDF planes well enough (but will take the edge off your plane blade)......of course the plane will produce dust rather than shavings.
To help keep the edge good, plane a chamfer on the edges first - this helps prevent the MDF edges burring over.

Am I being optimistic in trying to plane off up to 20mm? And I assume any cheap plane will do, I only have this job to do.

scribe to the floor and cut with a jig saw,ever thought about a skirting around the bottom to give the job some finish and cover a multitude of sin's

Skirting will be my fall back if the planing goes wrong. Also, I don't have a jigsaw with me at the moment either

So other than it being a pain, there are no issues with planing 20mm off?

A handsaw followed by plane makes a lot more sense

are you using green heart mdf?or are you painting it?
if not then make another 2 or 3 as when the mdf gets wet as it will do as of the moisture in the room it will blow.

I am using standard green MR MDF - is that the same stuff?

By "green heart" I think gregers means MR-MDF. Some manufacturers of MR-MDF use a brown surface layer with a green core because the brown colour paints out easier, or so I've been told

yeah thats the same stuff,its a bit more moisture resistance then normal mdf.
