So you essentially have three distinct areas with appliances built in?

I think personal preference dictates how you do it, but I for one, would not want to splatter my kitchen with 5/6 FCUs and a cooker control switch

Remember the switches are usually rated at 20amp, so cannot be used on a 32amp ring main without first being fused down.

I guess it's just the FCU I don't like (the fuse below the rocker rather than next to it)!!.

It's not that so much that I don't like, it's the cr@ppy screw mechanism that fails on the first use.

Mmmm.

I've never had a real problem with them, you just need to push harder than you think you should. I will agree they could be made better though

Does that not defeat the purpose of having the 'controls' above counter. I.e. what happens if the fuse blows in an FCU behind a built-in oven, or integrated fridge?

You'd have to pull the appliance out... at least in an above-counter FCU you just change the fuse.

If you used a grid switch/fuse combo, you'd need a 16 gang one for 8 appliances.

it does somewhat defeat the purpose, but it means you still have DP isolation above the counter for use in an emergency or whatever.

And lets face it, how many times have you had to pull an appliance out to replace it's fuse?

Just timber - open fronted. Effectively a 150mm wide base unit with 4 or 5 shelves and no door!

I know what you mean about so many FCUs. Got this in my current kitchen, and while it doesn't look ****, it doesn't look particularly great either.

If you put the kitchen on it's own ring, does this achieve the requirement of being able to shut appliances of instantaneously without individual appliance controls..... as you just trip the breaker in the CU

Not entirely sure I get the reference to this entirely? All of those things generally have an accessible means of local isolation ie the socket theyre plugged into is not hidden behind a 15kg, often built in appliance.

If that's where you're headed, I'll give you a race, me unplugging my phone charger, and you unplugging your washing machine

I already linked to photos 1 & 3 in my previous post, no 2 was the one I was actually looking for. I just wish MK did engraved switches with labels I actually wanted, don't fancy paying the same price as the switch again to get them engraved myself

The double socket in the first pic looks the same as a 'no brand' one I got off eBay - the black part around the pins is a slightly different shape

If I went the grid switch route with under-counter FCUs, how would I handle the oven as I believe the max FCU you can get is 13amp.

The oven I'm looking at is 20amp; fit a 45 DP switch below counter rather than an FCU?
