Hey,

Just trying to decide where my kitchen appliance isolation will go as I do not want them between worktop and wall units. As I have some space that a standard unit will not fit in....

The idea is to 'make' a unit with one big cut out in the panel that standard dry lining back boxes will go in, butted up to each other (obviously allowing for face plates).

The illegal part comes from the fact that accessories need to be fixed to, well, fixed walls (unless a kitchen unit isn't considered the same as a garden fence).

Indeed. And some of those may not be FCUs.

I take it that H =Hob? Most hobs need more than 13amp, so that's one less......

Gas hob (3a), double oven is 20a so will be on a 45a switch. CU is under the stairs which relatively speaking is 'behind' the 931 corner base unit.

Thin red lines = buried cables (except horizontal under-counter lights, these are behind the units) - in this instance in a 164mm deep stud, not chased out brick. Opposite this wall is brick so the cables and flex outlets will be chased in brick.

As to the unnecessaryness of having them, what is the matter of fact? Some say have them, others not. Some say 'hide' them in a cupboard but if you have to empty a cupboard to get to them, may as well have to pull the appliance out to get to them

From another forum:

"There are a couple of ways to get around having spurs (Isolation switches) on your kitchen splash back area:
1. Locate all spurs within a central unit, along with clear labelling on each indemnifying what appliance it shall switch off
2. Locate all switches within a grid plus arrangement along with fuse carriers to suit each appliance
3. Locate each socket within a adjoining low level kitchen unit and drill through the unit for the plug to plug into the socket"

There are no regulations stating you must have switches above the worktop to isolate appliances.
It may be useful but if you don't want switches above the worktop you don't have to.
FCUs are pointless as there will be a fuse in the plug.

It's just a matter of convenience depending on what you want.

Some people hear something once (from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about) and henceforth it is gospel.
