Traffic free city centre

Apparently, the mayor of Bristol has decided that on one Sunday a month the city centre will be closed to motor traffic. I'm not sure what he hopes to achieve but I'm glad I don't need to travel into the middle of this town or, more importantly, need the help of emergency vehicles.

Perhaps he's just trying to make a name for himself.

Agree...City centres are dying because of the constant anti motorist attitudes of councils.I personally haven't been into Nottingham city for twenty years.Why should I when I can buy everything I want elsewhere without worrying about car park charges or traffic wardens?
One day a councilor will be born with brains.

I wonder whether the penny will drop when all town centre shops are closed and boarded up, and the council are wondering where their business rates income has gone to.

Who wants city centre with 50,000 cars looking for parking? It's just logistics. Everyone should ride a bike.

The place was solid this afternoon, it costs £1 to park all day on Sunday ten minutes walk from the square. If you didn't have parking charges and traffic wardens then people would block the space all day and shoppers wouldn't be able to pop in for an hour or two and give the centre shops some business.

Some people are simply selfish and put them in a car and it brings out the worst in them. People who 'tootle along', hog the middle lane, people who think double yellow lines only applies to other people. Should have their licences taken off them, make them take the bus, might make them realise there are other people on the roads.

Er, she wouldn't appear to fit the mould...

There isn't a cyclist problem in Nottingham, though there was some outing today so plenty out and about. They do tend to clog the back country lanes though, but at least they are on the road. They are a bit like tootling motorists who also cause accidents, they need to be aware of other road users, the road isn't there for them alone.

By some fluke of nature, I too am a cat lover as you know (who likes riding bikes - preferably on crowded pavements with a load of OAP's around, seeking out red traffic lights to jump). Sometimes I carry around small feline faecal samples and throw them into people's borders.

Are you suggesting that one may be selfish perchance?
