I'm just watching a drama programme on TV set in the Second World War - Hope and Glory - on which was a short clip showing a school teacher using a world map to point out all the 'pink' bits and how much of the world we ruled.

It made me wonder, why aren't our children taught to be proud of our country any more?

No wonder we're in the ****.

As you know, children are taught all about their roles as good citizens as part of their global awareness. That, and how to shoot up drugs safely and how to avoid STD's and pregnancy.

Beyond that, there's only a finite amount of time to prepare for tests and assessments (albeit that the system is not "exam led" even though the politicos keep on harping on about them).

Well the authorities have decided that being 'British' is actually a 'racist' thing to do.
No flying your St Georges flag or you might upset people.

This country is a sad remnant of what it was only 30 years ago.
Would I join the Army today like I did 30 years ago.
Nope not a chance.
Do I have an eye on living out my life in another land?
Yep but where?

The sad thing is that when I was younger I took it all in what being British was about , stiff upper lip' , 'dont complain' , 'head down and work hard' 'Good will prevail', Be a net contributor to the state.

etc etc.

Ethics were drummed into you at school and they made sense and a small minority who disobeyed those ideals were looked down upon. The drug users , the theives , the illegal immigrants etc etc.

Then things changed when everyone suddenly decided that the underdog was the drug user and the illegal immigrant was entitled and work was for the stupid to be milked. Big businesses no longer had a moral duty to be fair and governments no longer were responsible for managing the country and its stability and future only their expenses and the next election win.
Common sense was thrown out of the window and in came ambulance chasing lawyers and un unsustainable egalitarian fantasy.

Now I no longer fit into this world it has changed so much but not for the better.
Once upon a time people worked in factories producing goods to resale. An honest days work for an honest days pay was the expression.
Now the factories are call centres.
Make 300 phone calls a day and you might just fool someone into signing up your irrelevant product and keep your job.
Take me back to the days when tea break had the staff playing footie in the yard.

Well said Itshere. I share your opinion..

Even the criminals had some ethics. They would never rob the vulnerable people. Banks were a fair ( but illegal ) target but old age pensioners were safe.

Summer 1963 my grandparents were burgled, maybe they were time travellers, never heard so much tripe in a long time

Who says you cannot fly a flag?, you must have lived in a different UK to the one I grew up in, another load of tripe

OK I will add to my comment. Very few criminals would rob vulnerable people. There were of course some that went for the easy vulnerable targets. I do recall a couple of local villians raising funds ( legally ? ) to help out those in need. One scum bag who robbed a elderly shop keeper handed himself in to the police, the local criminal fraternity had told him it was that or face their form of punishment.

So you have de bunked what you said in the first place, what is your point exactly

I agree with Itshere, the only thing I would add is; when I enlisted, we had to swear an alliegence to the Queen, that I would not do today.

Crystal ball, I would be very interested how old you are, I reckon you're in your 20s or 30s maybe?

P.S. before anyone ask, it was the Queen, not the King when I enlisted..

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/39...ge-s-flag-as-it-might-be-offensive-to-Muslims

One crackpot council does not a summer make, and the Express specialise in rubbish like this try a credible source

You can still fly a flag if you wish
Yes but what is happening to this country when some of them are worrying about upsetting the Muslims :?:

Some very good comments (except for Chrystal Ball).

Yes, I'm afraid that between them the trendy do-gooders and our glorious leaders have achieved what Hitler and Napoleon failed to do.

This country has had it.
