My boiler stopped working few days ago randomly.

No matter what mode it is in , water , water and CH , or CH. The main pump starts up fine, a few clicks from mother board and nothing after that.

The pump just continues to run until I switch it off. I have checked the reset temp on the pipe to make sure its in and its fine.

It appears the fan , nor pilot attempts to start. Just a click from the PCB and only green light stays on.

Anyone have any ideas

On further look , the click comes from the gas valve, the giant fan on the top does not spin, then shortly afterwards a click from the pcb.

Always had this funky problem but it never bothered me incase its related but the heating always came on when I asked for hot water then went off once tap was closed. Now i dont have either

Well without being in front of the boiler and having diagnostic skills there are several possible causes and no one can tell you which it is.

What would you want me to do? Just give a long list of the possibilities?

Some of which are gas related and we don't give DIY advice on them.

So just how do you KNOW that its fine?

Did you just look at it?

There is only one way that I would be able to say that its fine and that's not by just looking at it!

Rhank you for the repkies. There are no red lights only a green one.

I kbow its ok because if i remove the wire from it i hear a relay click on the pcb and when i put it back another click whoch to me sounds like its ok. I did the same for thw thero senspr just above it.

I can say the boiler does same thing when a hot water tap is turned on ot attempts yo start as above.

Dont want a comprehensive list just things i could try to diagnose issue. Such as short out switches to check there working etc

Well I agree that does sound as if the o/h stat is ok.

But as an engineer I would be measuring its resistance as a high value could produce odd results.

The problem is most likely caused by the PCB but as that's quite expensive I would need to satisfy myself that everything else is OK ( by testing them ).

We cannot give advice here relating to gas/combustion and some of the possibilities include some of those aspects.

Ubdwrstand about comustion. I am an electronic engineer so i can meassure any components you need me to bar gas related ones.

Well you could start on the PCB as that's most likely to be the problem. Not quite so easy on the LSI chips!

Its just that I would have to eliminate everything else before replacing the PCB.

Hmm not much i can do on the pcb really. If its ic driven. The fact the top fan does not run is odd. I could check voltage on the coil. What i have niticed on the karge copper diverter i tjink it is with 2 micro switches the rear one is fully up and engaged. Thought that should only be up when heating is working. Unless im wrong.

I open up pcb see if i can se anything. Is there anything in particular thays common

You should not be accessing the fan inside the combustion chamber.

The rear microswitch should only activate when pump starts.

You could start by freeing the gland.

But from memory it does not prevent the ignition sequence from proceeding although ideally it should.

You could try moving it by hand!

The fan is not inside the combustion chamber as such, there are fins outside of that I can see if its spinning or not.

I just had another look at it now funny enough, remember I said after a while there is a relay click on the mother board well the fan moves ever so slightly so it appears the fan might be alright.

Things do seem to be pointing to the PCB dont they.

The switch at the back does go up and down when the pump starts

Thanks everyone for there replies, I have found the fault and have got my boiler running again.

So people know it was the PCB, I am an electronics engineer, turns out it was a dry joint on one of the relays and a sticking solanoid.

I have got it running for the moment, but it be a £5 part on RS components. Lucky for me this time it was something I was able to repair myself.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with your opinion there!

The fan is inside the sealed combustion chamber.

We don't recommend DIYers open that part of the boiler!
