Identify my Boiler?

I do have an old gas boiler on the wall, it's an Ideal / Standard Concord WRS40.
I am having some trouble getting it back to life after I shut it down whilst putting a fresh FFD in the cooker.
I can get the pilot to light, but cannot then get it to flare and then heat the water.
It is a basic piece, and I think manufactured around 1976, and has been working fine. I was trying to find a manual for it, but the WRS40 doesn't seem to exist; the "gas appliance number" is 41 399 94.

Is it really a WRS40 or was the numbering changed?

thanks for asking; it had been running fine until, having shut the gas off, then relit, the pilot ignites, but after waiting for twenty plus seconds and the pilot burning independently, it won't flare either when the control is turned up or the system switched on. As you say, all parts are basic, and there is little to go wrong.

I think I may have to open her up tomorrow and check the thermocouple.

Get a qualified gas man in to check it.

If yo think that the problem is the thermocouple even though you have an established and apparently self sustaining pilot light then you are most definitely not competent enough to by monkeying around inside.

Decent gas man should ave this working in half an hour once he's double checked what is wrong with it and got the required part.

Why do I need to identify it?

I know what you have.

It is a simple and very old boiler. I doubt it is listed anywhere that you'll find easily.

I also know that there are things that need checking and no doubt replacing as part of the work that you will overlook or not realise is important.

It is against forum rules to aid with DIY gas work also.

So you are welcome for my concern - which is aimed squarely at the safety of you and your family.

The GC No doesn't seem to relate to an Ideal boiler

It is probably a Ideal Concord wrs440

Anyway a common fault on this is a dislodged/loose electrical plug that pushes into the back or side of control box that houses boiler stat

simple diy fix if it is this or RGI if its not

You may have identified it for me; the connector moved in by a fraction of an inch, and then when I hit the programmer, it fired up, so many thanks for that suggestion. (odd how that can happen though there had been no pressure on that unit).

That will now give me time to finish servicing the gas cooker tomorrow.

Great boiler. One of my customers has one of these. Despite age, no problem getting most parts. Don't build 'em like that any more.

Thanks for that, in truth there isn't much to go wrong, but knowing that the spares are there is encouraging.

Are you sure you have not disturb the electric plug that goes into boiler stat housing on these

That's not very likely for someone who has just finished fitting an FFD to his gas cooker!
