Anyone Fitted A Surestop Tap?

I've got an elderly customer who had a minor plumbing problem the other day that was made worse because she couldn't turn off her water.

Has anyone fitted a Surestop (remote model) after the main stop tap? Any problems with them? Do they restrict flow much? Is this the only product that turns off water or are there others?

Any info re. these is welcome, as I haven't even seen one before.

Yep,some goon went on dragon`s den and sold these waste of spaces to all the gullible builders and hence we have these nightmares which I rip out on a daily basis, they are useless,pointless and a gimmick,they work for a while then ultimately,definitely fail, always, usually on new build cause the architect doesn`t know his ar*se from his elbow and wants these installing..They`re pointless.. You have to have an incoming stoptap anyway, and you will surely need one when these start to leak all over the place,ironic isn`t it?

Can sometimes be a bit of a pig to fit especialy when you have to
neatly cut a hole in the back of a unit and cut the tee into imovable pipe work.

All in all a great boon to the elderly and those that are unable to get down
on hands and knees with stilsons or grips.

Should be fitted on all installs, a flick of a switch and water off.

No reduction in flow or pressure.

They are not be cause they ultimately fail 100% per cent of the time, I`m the guy who rips out your surestop switches dude!

Try telling that to a pensioner furiously flicking the `useless switch` with water flooding around her ankles,

Why would you cut a tee in pipework to fit a surestop??

The latest surestop is WRAS approved to be used as the main stoptap because it can also be shut off on the tap itself.

The relevant British Standard requires stopvalves of a certain pattern for the main internal stopcock. This is generally the traditional type; i doubt the surestop complies.

Fitted a few on a council contract, never heard of any problems afterwards. If you fit one make sure the pressure tubes are pushed fully home.
