Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to get a plumber in to move a washing machine but first i wanted some opinions and possible price gestimates so i dont get ripped off! (Im no expert, but know a little)

We have our washing machine in our kitchen currently and I want it in the utility room which is next door. Currently this is fed by a cold water pipe that similar to the waste pipe runs behind the length of the kitchen and into a void where the main waste pipe is (see the pic).

I therefore want to remove part of the plaster board that is covering the main waste wipe and extend the cold water feed and waste pipe into the utility room for the new washing machine.

Obviously this would also need an access panel for a stop valve and to gain access if needed.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I don't know London pricing but I'd estimate £150 - 200 for water supply pipe and waste. More if the waste is cast iron or larger than 4", if the water supply is lead, or if it's difficult to open up and reinstate the plasterboard.

I like those figures! thanks, erm the main waste pipe is plastic and I believe it is 4" but it could be slightly bigger. As for the water pipe it's copper but it might be slightly difficult to get at (dependent on the access panel size i guess)

all possible thats the main thing :)

Does your water supply enter the house in the utility room boxing-in ( next to the soil & vent pipe)?

You mention a "stop valve" what is it (or will it be) isolating or controlling?

My understanding is that any job in certain parts of London that goes past four hours is into about £400 labor ie. a full day. In parts of southern California and the SF bay area a plumber/sparky will cost about $1000/day, more if a union worker.

I'm moving to California
