Is it best to consider placing radiators away from windows as part of a house redevelopment project as most heat seems to get trapped under a window ledge or heat up a cold area rather than being around the centre of a room?

If you are redeveloping, why not use underfloor heating?

The old way used to be to locate them under windows so they would both help to stop the cold draughts from the single glazed windows, and drive moisture off the panels and dump it elsewhere in the room where it couldn't be seen.
In our modern double glazed and draughtproofed boxes there is less reason to put rads under windows....though it is still a convenient place to put them when furniture is competing for wall space and, with a properly sized curtain that tucks behind the rad, little heat is lost to the window.

I have ufh downstairs and rads up.
The rooms where the rads are NOT under the windows are the least comfortable.
Mid 80's 4 bed detached with cavity insulation and double glazing.
I also have room level zoning and a wife with the liquid nitrogen for blood.

the heat gradient is greatest under a window, so if you want to maximise heat loss and energy costs, put your radiators there. They will also prevent you fitting floor-length curtains which will block the flow of cold air from the window.
I had a feeling you would have some input to this thread. Can you explain why the 2 rooms in my house with the rads NOT under the windows are the least comfortable?
One is south West facing the other more North East st. Both have 2 outside walls. Both are bedrooms

How does a set heat loss from a room vary with a Rad in a different location?
The human body feels the difference between two extremes. Therefore cold air at window combined with the warmer air from the other gives the body two conflicting sensory inputs.
Having a rad under the window neutralises the colder air coming off the window.
As for Nobcorn and his vertical rads? We all know he is full of shit and has not once managed to demonstrate otherwise.
