With an induction hob you have to heat the pan first. Plus it will have quite effective thermal conduction to air, wasting yet more energy.

It'll be quick, but it also uses a lot of power.

Is there a coil in the bottom of the removable bit of the kettle? if so, and if they are more efficient than an induction hob (or not) would saucepans and frying pans work better if they had bases like kettles? I've never had an induction hob so I don't know how much lost heat there is.

For any real tight arzes out there.
When you make a pot of tea fill the kettle back up straight away, by the time you make another the water temp will have risen a degree or two towards room temp.
Saving the kettle a bit of work, thus making it last longer, and resulting in an annual saving of at least 20 p a year on the leccy bill. win win

As a fellow tight-arse, may I recommend positioning the kettle in sunlight, which will add a degree or two to its initial temperature.

to me its only a saving if the effort involved is less than the financial gain
this why i measure things and try things
i wont spend any effort to save money
anything unplugged will be at table level or above and in the passing i would not for example go into another room to unplug a tv on standby it will stay like that until i am passing

I thought the answer would be quite obviously the kettle since it is rated at a higher wattage and thus heat water faster and also cost less as the heat transfer is almost 99% with very little loss of heat and whilst a 900 watt microwave will have less efficiency as not all microwaves can strike the water contained in a cup, so not only would it take longer but also cost a bit more.
