Wiring a switch to a socket

Hi all,

Wanting to put some of the lights in a room http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-recessed-led-kit-white-pack-of-10/14396 but don't want to have to turn them on and off at the plug. My question is, is it possible to come from a socket on the ring to another socket with some sort of switch in between so that they can easily be turned on/off with out having to be near the socket?

You could run them off a fused connection unit with a downrated 3Amp fuse

Thanks Chivers, I ideally want to stay away from using an FCU if possible. I don't really want and FCU on display and also don't want to take the plug off the kit in case it needs returning etc.


Do you have any other suggestions?

The plug in that kit includes the driver for the LEDS so you cannot just cut off the plug.

An FCU wonthelp you either, unless you add another socket to it.

So you are stuck with what you have got.

Turn the lights off at the socket, or buy one of those remote control sockets, then you can control the lights with a remote control thingy.

He could surely take a spur from the ring to an unfused dp switch, then on to a socket, much like is done in kitchens for the appliances?

The unfused dp switch looks just like a light switch and could be mounted beside the existing light switch.

So I could spur from the ring with 2.5mm TE to an unfused dp switch then 2.5mm TE to another socket so that I can plug the lights in yeah?

Where can I find an unfused dp switch as I can only seem to find 20amp ones?

A 20A switch is what you will have to use.
