Lifting upstairs floor boards on a dormer converted bungalow

Hi,

Long story cut short: have single pipe heating laid in the upstairs of a dormer converted bungalow. However I now need to lift the floors to lay a two pipe system to the three bedrooms and four radiators up there.

Anyone done this and how much of a nightmare awaits me?

It shouldn't be too much of an issue Steve......maybe if you consider using plastic barrier pipe it could be easier?
For lifting normal floorboards, I usually chain drill a series of 3mm holes along the join......just enough to get a jigsaw blade in, and then cut along the tongue until you meet a joist.
A tight radius then allows you to cut along the joist edge and the board can be lifted clear. A lath planted onto the side of the joist gives support when the board is replaced.
You need to be careful for cables and other pipes down there......where they might be or how deep they are buried can be anyone's guess!
I keep a shortened jigsaw blade for such occasions that only just penetrates the board depth.
As for the heating circuitry, over to those with a brain cell

Can you not run the pipework round the perimeter void and feed through the dwarf walls in each room for the rad tails?

I need to lift the carpet as I can't remember what type of floor was laid, though I want to say they were panels??

In a stud wall where would the "void" be I remember insulation panels being put in??

Behind the insulation there will be what is left of the roofspace - you should be run a flow and return right around the space and feed into each room in the appropriate position - disconnect the old single pipe circuit
