New Intergas Rapid Boilers

Hi all!

Can anyone give me the lowdown on the new Intergas Rapid boilers? Is it me or do they look like an updated Atmos Intercombi?

They come with an Erp compliant pump + internal EV.

They are certainly cheap compared to the standard HRE models. I've seen the Rapid 25 (equivalent to the HRE 28/24) at £630 inc. VAT for the boiler + flue + spacer frame +mag filter.

Is there something missing or of a lesser spec?!

Internal EV
Combined Condensate and PRV
Central Flue
Reduced Warranty over the HRE
Same HEX design as the HRE (as opposed to the HE).
No pressure sensor

Condensate knuckle will need annual cleaning just like the HE, and there is the ali flue riser at the back of the HEX like the HE. Not been a problem on the hundreds of HE's I fitted, but cold be an issue.

For the money it is a good boiler.


Ironically, Atmos sell them from their merchants TBS; as well as the HRE.

I'm not an RGI just an interested end user.

The cabinet looks the same as the former Atmos Intercombi.

I wonder if it has it received all of the tweeks / updates / improvements that I understand the Intergas boilers have over their production life?

Certainly seems cheap for what's on offer - granted the reduced warranty etc.

Intergas made the Atmos Intercombi.

The chassis of the Rapide was made from the same moulding.

There are a few less useful aspects:-

No mounting template for the installer to use.

Only 3 year warranty which HAS to be registered within 30 days! Extendable for an additional 3 years for a further payment of about £150.

A very probablematic flue elbow/system to install when flued to the rear as 95% of boilers are.

No telescopic flue so it has to be cut. Inner part is aluminium so again more work to cut to size.

At about 40 kg a heavy boiler to lift onto the mounting.

Better things:-

Internal expansion vessel.

No electronic pressure monitor but instead a mechanical gauge, probably better though.

Combined PRV/Condensate output which will save a little time on installation. But means a leaking PRV will not be likely to be noticed.

Only available from small independent suppliers.

Just on a slight tangent - is it true that all new boilers sold will have to be ErP compliant soon - and that the current Intergas HRE range will be updated with an ErP compliant pump?

Are the installation instructions wrong!
The installation instructions do not show a combined PRV/condensate.

The instructions says:

The CH system should be provided with:-

• A filling/draining tap (A) in the return pipe immediately below the appliance.
• A drain tap at the lowest point(s) of the installation.
• A 3 bar pressure relief valve (B) in the supply pipe at a maximum distance of 500 mm from the appliance.
• There must be no valve or constriction between the appliance and the overflow valve.
• An expansion vessel in the return pipe.
• A check valve, if pipes run upwards at a short distance from the appliance. This avoids the occurrence of thermosiphon effect during DHW operation mode.

It looks like you have to provide your own PRV. They use different terms for the same thing (poor writing), pressure relief valve and overflow valve

But means a leaking PRV will not be likely to be noticed.

The gauge will tell you if the system is leaking. Also use one of these tundishes:

The manual is very poor. The poor fuzzy picture on page 13, which our resident Chav thinks negates the appalling mistakes in the manual. I did try to look at the poor piccie but gave up, and the other parts clearly state what I cut and paste from the manual. People will be running out buying PRVs.

I have suggested to many people to consider an Intergas, but they say B Gas have never heard of them and will not support them on a service contract, and most others as well. So they dismiss the idea and buy a Baxi or whatever.

It might be fuzzy, but the big letters clearly stating Pressure Relief Safety Valve, and Expansion Vessel might have given you a clue.


Having said that the progeny of the boiler might confuse you a little. . We expect a person of your limited (very) ability and knowledge to be flummoxed by these concepts. The rest of us crack on and get the job done right.
