Architrave problem

Hi.

I would like an advice about architrive and vanyl flooring. Our builer replaced some of our skirting boards and architrive in 1 part of the kitchen. We had vanyl flooring installed that day also. Unfotunately the skirting board and architrave he bought are about 20mm wide. I dont like the architrave. I was wondering what can I do?? If I buy thinner one then the will be a hole in the vanyl floor. Please help

Either learn to live with it,

Or if the new architraves are only fractionally smaller, some clever siliconing or sealant and the like may work wonders,

Or fit the architraves and skirtings of your choice, then fit some beading/quarter-round to cover the gap,

Or cut the architrave across a few inches from the floor level. Remove the architraves leaving only the very bottom pieces where the cut was made.

Install new architraves, and blend the bottom joins in with a two part filler.

But really would be best all round to live with the architraves as they are.

The thinner one would normally be 18mm & you could just pack the new skirting out from the wall then use caulk to hide the gap or alternatively just fix the thinner skirting straight to the wall then run a piece of quadrant along the bottom.
With regards to the architrave you could use a "plinth block"(google it) this would cover the gap at the bottom or again just pack the architrave out & caulk the gap.
