"the UK is the world’s largest exporter of financial services, generating a trade surplus of £47.2bn in 2011. These exports – by British financial organisations and those from overseas which have chosen to operate in the UK – help offset trade deficits in other sectors such as manufacturing and tourism. "
https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/about-the-city/about-us/Documents/the-uk-world-class.pdf

"The contribution of financial services to the UK economy is higher than the US share of 7.6% and Japan’s 4.9% – and much higher than in France and Germany where financial services contribute 4.7% and 4.2% to GDP respectively. This is not because the British use more financial services: it is because the UK is a leading provider of financial services globally."

"Professional services closely connected to the financial sector such as accountancy, legal services, management consultancy and maritime services contributed a further 4.9%. That was a combined contribution of over £195bn – more than the £145bn output of the entire UK manufacturing sector"

It appears that you don't know what the UK exports, and what it makes its money from.

In another reply, in another thread:
I don't really like PMs far better things be said out in the open for all to see.
And
I don't know how to send a PM
But now:
Send me a PM and I'll answer you that's a promise

Glad to see that you've mastered the art of the PM gasbanni but find it strange that your attitude has changed from "far better things to be said out in the open", to "Send me a PM and I'll answer you that's a promise".[/QUOTE

You are highlighting that you don't have an argument... What does our exports to the rest of the world got to do with our negotiations with the EU have to do with the issue.... Fact is, we buy more from the EU than we sell to them so if they still want to sell their products in our market, then they will put up and shut up... For the 3 million jobs that rely on our trade with the EU, they have 5 million jobs that depend on selling to us....Are you really that thick?

That's why the EU wants to take it away from London, surely you know about that. If you don't educate yourself on the subject.

Why did I ask the last question.........I know the answer silly me

....Switzerland routinely sells more to the EU than it buys and has a trade surplus so in terms of negotiation has much to lose by not bowing the the EUs demands... There is no such issue with the UK.

Corgi-Ice has failed to grasp that UK's huge export earner is financial services and allied trades. And he thinks that the EU would allow their business to go through the City of London if UK didn't obey EU regulations.

This is obviously nonsense.

And Gasbaggi has failed to grasp that as a major member of the EU, the UK currently has a seat at the table and a loud voice in framing those regulations. A voice that would be lost if we were standing outside shouting through the letterbox.

Hey John D how come you haven't locked this thread like you did with the civitas report thread ?
A simple answer will suffice

He grasps it perfectly.. If they prevent their business to go through London, then tariffs can be placed on their goods... It's called business, what that business happens to be is irrelevant.

Bolo, this is a thread about the EU
Of course it is Fire and Ice! I must remember to keep to the topic in hand and not go off at a tangent
Perhaps it would be better for you to open a new thread about how to send PMs
I don't think opening a new thread on PMs is such a good idea F&I, because the topic has been discussed in great detail in the Forum Information section and gasbanni could have picked up the PM instructions there. He, gasbanni, is just so lucky to have a knight in shining armour like yourself, to come to his aid at times like this. You are not so lucky, because I can count on no hands the number of knights in shining armour who came to your aid when you wrongly stated that "all bolo wants to talk about is immigration. Oops, there I go again! I know!
This is a thread about the EU! Sorry guys!

Hey John duncie answer the question ? If you dare ! Re thread locking

But you like opening new threads about nothing at all, I thought that it was how you get your kicks....That and bellyaching like a little girl

And yet again I shall rebuff the same four reasons..
Leaving the EU does not mean that we would have to comply with their laws. Why would we? We do not have to join EFTA at all.
Indeed. Why would the U.K. still be obliged to follow all of the EU's orders once outside the EU? I would hope that having escaped from the clutches of the EU, the U.K. government would then set about purging the statute books of all the damaging legislation which has been passed only because of EU directives.

However, we will still have access to the EU if they want to have access to the UK market.
Why do so many of the EU supporters either believe - or try to get others to believe - that withdrawal from the EU would mean a cessation of trade with EU members? Do they think that Britain never traded with France, West Germany, Italy and all the other countries prior to 1973?

We will still be able to move to any EU country that we wish if we have skills that they need or enough money to fund our lives in their countries.. Many EU countries require us to have our own health insurance for all but emergency treatment.
And again, some EU supporters seem to think that deciding to pack up and live in Spain to work or to retire to France is no more difficult than deciding to go and look for work in London or retiring to Bournemouth. While much of the red-tape and the necessity for visa etc. might have been removed, in many cases there is still a certain amount of bureaucratic red-tape to go through anyway.

The likes of Toyota and Nissan seem quite happy about the UK to not be in the EU
And how many other foreign companies established themselves in the U.K. prior to 1973?
