I assume the electrician was a member of an approved scheme - I have an inspector's name on the EICR and I will certainly be asking tomorrow.

Prob can't point them at this thread but I will document what I can sensibly and get in touch with them.
I can at least push for a retest at no cost with an inspector that they give me the credentials for.
Unfortunately EICR was done with the seller and prior to me moving in. This time I will make sure I am on site when the inspection is done.
The estate agent who recommended will also get some feedback to say the least.
C&G 2391 is a good starting point to insist upon, however on its own, even this can not guarentee competance
Agreed. The 2391 has now been replaced by the 2394 and 2395. The course and exams are quite involved. I did mine last year.

Don't ask anyone whose name is on the EICR for a recommendation for another electrician, the name(s) are just the electrician (and their supervisor if 2 names). I would think the estate agent should be happy to refund the cost (which was?) on the basis that you wont pursue them and their electrician in court for incompetence! The good news is that being pvc/pvc with an earth in my opinion your installation is probably serviceable despite it's age but you want a good electrician on site to confirm that. Some remedial/upgrade works (new CU, earthing&bonding if req'd, replace old dated accessories are good places to start) would be a good idea assuming the install was done well in the first place and hasn't been abused. You should be able to check if the company is registered here: http://www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk/ there's no actual legal requirement for registration to carry out EICR's though.

Good. If you get no progress with the agent etc, then you can make a complaint directly to NAPIT.

MCB terminals tightened to the point of breaking the mechanism and preventing the contacts from opening. I also replaced MCB 5 as you can see in the photo the terminal at the top has been over tightened and buckled.
Interesting to see an example of a failure caused by overtightening.
There don't seem to be too many examples, other than that DB fire in that National Trust property. Strangely enough this CU was in an NT property...
Ok, got a resolution today.
Initially I got an updated EICR with some corrections made, but was still a lot missing and I had no confidence.
They only use this one guy so I requested a refund, which to their credit, they obliged today.
I now need to find someone reliable in the area to properly complete the test for me.

At least you got your money back. I wonder just how many other inspections this company have carried out to this standard, and how many customers think their installation is in good safe working order when it really isn't.
