Rapid prototyping ? :-

Be good to remake a damaged side mirror housing...

I have to stop myself researching 3d printing because it's something I'd lose thousands of hours in + I'm waiting for prices to continue dropping before purchasing a printer.

The beautiful thing about this is the environmental savings.. imagine all those things you've bought which you've thrown away because you can't find the part.. now is the very real possibility that we can increase a products lifespan infinitely, and even manufacture our own from scratch. This will inevitably contribute to the complete downfall of society as we've come to know it, as the vast majority of products will not need to be 'purchased' they will be manufactured at source within a person's own home. It's difficult to imagine every single possibility, but the one thing we do know is that 'economic growth' is slowing, and with revolutionary technology like this it will continue to slow. Fantastic, revolutionary, bring on the new age ASAP because we ****ing need it.

I wonder if there is anybody out there who could make a bespoke two piece case for a mobile phone?

Are you kidding??

Did you really?

That's just what I am looking for!!!

How did you make it?

My Samsung Mega 6.3" has developed a few reliability issues and I am considering a replacement.

I have two ideas: Huawei P8 Max or Huawei Mediapad X2.

Part of my cerebral palsy means I am cack-handed and drop stuff a lot. I mean a lot. So much so that we have started buying unbreakable plates bowls etc... as I have dropped so many over the years.

So I really need a "tough" two layer phone case, which is proving impossible to find.

Can anyone help me track a suitable case down, or maybe an alternative huge-screen phone that does have "dual layer" cases made for it?

Thanks, guys.

I recently made an indestructible one for my Huawei Mediapad X2....if only there was a market for this kind of thing!

Sorry, SS, I couldn't resist! :evil::D

Hey bummer, man, that's not fair! Fell for that hook line and sinker!

From a fellow Welshman too... shoulda paid more attention to the "" in your post... I thought you were just asking the sheepdog to round up the flock... (Welsh stereotype joke there ;))

Your punishment is to become misterhelpful (with the emphasis on helpful this time...;)) whose location is:

Shenzhen (formerly Ohio, formerly Mid Glamorgan)

and set up a factory there just to make me a case for the X2.

IF it was an Iphone :-

This guy printed his own case using code provided by zetoff :-

Will this thing make Dentists redundant, i need a new set of teeth.

I would think just around the corner are printers capable of using both the powdered plastic + other elements like metal. So yes, not but a few years away from your spare teeth.
Really exciting stuff.

Back in mid to late 90's a colleague, at work, was developing rapid prototyping for turbine components he was a youngish guy and did the whole thing from creating the models, post processing then machining - clever chap :- Selective laser sintering (SLS) and / or direct metal laser sintering (DMLS)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_laser_sintering

http://gpiprototype.com/services/dmls-direct-metal-laser-sintering.html

The 3D Printer these days ticks lots of boxes, training relatively cheap and disaster free, good for confidence, knock out parts in plastic, then move on to metals !

The more I see of the home type kits the closer to purchasing I become !!

So do these things just print or do they scan as well because without the info/blueprints to print from then trying to make a spare part out of thin air would be quite time consuming.
