Anyone do ACoPs pre 1998?

I stopped working on domestic gas in 1998 and had a fairly major career change, I now work in gas production and storegage but I'd like to become an RGI.
If I can produce evidence of my expired ACoPs I can be assesed for ACS as a category 1 applicant, the problem I have (or probably will have) is producing the original certs.
I'm hoping that if I can find out who the original issuing body was I may be able to obtain copies although I suspect that it was in fact the local college who issued them directly as these were the days before the assesment process was consistently applied from centre to centre.
As I recall we got issued with the certs for turning up (well almost anyway)!!

i couldn't remember earlier but when one of my mates re-qualified after not re taken for two years ( 2 year gap ) and they asked when last qualified he just said when and that was it , he didn't have to prove at all and that was three years ago ( approx ). i don't know if that has changed now thou . sorry sh-t grammar can't be bothered to change it

I did mine too. I think it was Bpec via SNIPEF, I think??
I was a volitary member of CORGI & still have a 4 digit Gas Safe number as a result.

You beat me then my gas safe ex corgi no is a 5 digit number

done mine through BG and without looking it out pretty certain it said issued cornwall college and we done it in midlands

I might be in luck, I've read the guidelines that assessment centres are supposed to work to and the guidelines say that the centre need to see "evidence of expired qualifications" (not proof). One of my previous employers has a copy of his notes that he took during interview and he'd noted that he saw my qualifications. He's prepared to write a letter to that effect so that might be enough. I need to speak to an assessment centre I think. I know I am going to need some training to get me up to date with legistlation etc just don't want to be an apprentice at my age! Lol

P.S. Did my first time through in 2001 I think... Was still ACOPs then I think. Only certs I can find are the first renewals back in 2006.

Hello again Highpressure I have just spoken with a good mate that runs and ACS school and they done ACOPS before that his advice is ring round the big ones that did or do it now and have your NI number to hand he says everything is attached to your NI number good luck

Thanks for all your replies guys! I think the best thing I can do is speak to an assesment centre and see what their requirements are. If I go armed with my NI number and the evidence I already have that may be enough but if not I'll try another route. The problem I have is that if I'm not classed as a Cat 1 entrant I'll be classed as a Cat 3 and it won't be practical for me to go that route as it will take too long

Sorry I can see how that was misread there my fault, I meant call around the current certification bodies , CITB , NIC, Bpec etc and give them your NI number if it was certified by them they should still have records not ACS centres

I was also first registered with CORGI when it was voluntary. I also had a five digit number then too. Assessment was by personal interview and with Nick in my case.

But even after ACS was started, I still did an ACOPS in commercial gas dryers at the BG place in Leeds.

No doubt will be corrected Agas if I am wrong but it was a long time ago but I seem to remember that when CORGI started it was part of BG and membership was voluntary, think a BG technician came out to meet you and had a free roll and a tea then signed you off and you were CORGI registered, there was certainly no exam or qualis or anything like that , cant remember how much if anything that you had to pay
