concerning over seas aid.

Apparently the U.K cannot use its over seas aid budget in order to help victims of this hurricane in the virgin islands

Another load of nonsense dreamt up by pencil pushers. Is this any thing to do with the EU ?

concerning over seas aid.

Apparently

The story I heard is that many countries, including the UK have agreed that they will each contribute a tiny part of their GDP to help underdeveloped countries which are very poor.

The idea was raised that some of this commitment should be diverted to a country that is not underdeveloped and very poor.

It doesn't count.

If the UK can afford to lend a hand to a former colony which is a tax haven for the rich, but is unable to cope with recent hurricane damage, nobody will stop it.

But you can't pretend that it is aid to the poor, and subtract your donation from assistance to those in greatest need.

There is no rule or regulation preventing the UK from helping the BVIs, just as there is no rule or regulation preventing some of the tax-dodging multibillionaires who live there from chipping in to help their local community. No doubt Richard Branson has already put his hand in his pocket.

It is OECD rules that prevent UK from sending the money.
Overseas aid is meant for the poorest (who never had much), rather than those who had more, but lost it. The poorest have no facility to "save for a rainy day".
BVI are not ranked as poor, by the OECD.

There will always be seemingly ridiculous applications of the rules, but generally I think that they are good in principle.

So a tax haven when in trouble asks for help from the Government which it hardly contributes to. I thought this is exactly how people want the situation to be - those who don't contribute don't get help.

You can send as much money as you want.

Just like you can spend as much money as you want on beer and fags.

But if you entered it in your home accounts as "washing powder and kitchen cleaner" then you would be lying to yourself.

And if you told your chums at Alcoholics Anonymous that you hadn't spent any money on drink, you would be lying to them. If they knew, they would call you out on it.

If you did, would you claim that AA had prevented you from spending money as you wished?

Nobody prevents the UK from sending money.

Have you nothing better to do, than be obtuse on an internet forum?
If those who are incorrect or obscure in their comments, and are not prepared to recognise their error, they must expect to be corrected.
It is transam or doggit like behaviour to start moaning about being corrected.

Correct. They are renowned for causing hurricanes.
Meddling EU.

No Noseall

I think (or hope) u under stood what I was saying ??? believe it or not I do credit u with slightly more sense then way har b :)

We give aid to India ? who have spent billions on nuclear bombs & have there own space program ?

typical attitude tbh

fortunately there are many on this forum , (unlike you , JD & way har bee ) who do not have hatred for foreigners & believe in helping those out who have suffered through no fault of there own;)

foolish transam is trying to make out there is somebody trying to prevent help going to the BVIs.
