My OP was merely questioning as to why the UK's over seas aid budget could not be used or have funds diverted ? Obviously you , Noseall , Kanker watsit

Apparently the U.K can send money and aid in order to help victims of this hurricane in the virgin islands

But it doesn't qualify to be included in the "foreign aid to poor countries" figure because the Virgin Islands aren't a poor country.

This makes no difference to the cost to the UK taxpayer. Why am I moaning about it?

I've never understood why we give so much (second only to the US). particularly given the receiving countries like India have a space program. I'm assuming that they could buy fewer space ships and help their own poor people?

I see nothing wrong with us reducing the commitment in order to help the BVIs etc. I don't care what category we call it.

whilst a significant part of the population lives in poverty. corruption is a way of life , a back log of 20,000.000 court cases & growing

I'm happy that the £millions we give to India helps the Indian Government to do essential things like lease £2 million nuclear submarines from Russia, and run a space programme .... all for the good of the people.
