Rough cost to fit new identical boiler

Well as usual, when challenged to back up spurious statements, a poster vanishes.

Not surprising as they're so ignorant of the facts that they think CORGI has any relevance to the subject. Yet feel qualified enough to advise someone on what should cost what and be done during a boiler swap.

However whilst the dude does his thing on the BMX track (I feel my kidneys whincing already), I had a look on Dropbox. For the last 3 years, NOT including:
  • Profit
  • My salary
  • Training
  • Materials
  • Any large tools
  • Holiday pay
  • Use of my own property
  • Pensions
  • VAT bills
  • Corporation tax
It cost me £60,000 a year to operate.

That's quite eye opening, so assuming a 40 hour week you're spending 30 pounds plus vat an hour before you even start the engine.

yes very eye opening. 30 per hour operating costs. hey for arguments sake lets round it up to 50 / hour.

Therefore $100 per hour labour charge still gives you a cool £50 per hour to spend on hookers or whatever else takes your fancy.

If you're a labourer you can get an hourly rate, but in the contacting world jobs are priced on risk as much as time taken. Maybe if you ask for an hourly rate you'll get a favourable rate, but if anything goes wrong you won't expect to pay again for their time to return to look at it.

Most trades base their quotations on how many man hours/days a job will take. Then warranty issues are negotiated. In the case of the OP he is obviously supplying his own boiler and materials. If the boiler dont work his headache. If you fleck up the install and not seal a joint correctly your headache. No call backs except for your workmanship.

And what figures did you come up with independently of mine? Perhaps a Corgi had a different business model to one whom holds the correct certification/accreditation/subscription?

im just trying to help the OP out. no need to get defensive. There is obviously a sliding scale; give a millionaire a hair cut and you charge $10,000. Give a normal person a hair cut and you charge £10.

A normal person will not hire a 'premium' barber. You may be serving the rich guys and fair play someone needs to and it is more lucrative. but don't expect the normal guy to pay the same high prices.

I'm not defensive

I'm annoyed that people with no idea what their blathering on about give the wrong information on a public forum and then subsequently make some poor fecker's life harder because of the misconceptions seeded in the mind of a potential customer by said blatherer.

Don't forget to include the costs the new regs will create that come in force today.

So as I say there's an element of risk.
2 hours paid for scratching your behind has no risk of call backs. Spend 2 hours making joints and there's a risk to be priced in.
Plus the time spent arguing about whose fault the problems are.
