I thought so. Funnily enough, I was just out looking at it a while ago and I noticed a 15mm copper pipe with a bend on the end of it about 1 metre away from the flue. Obviously an overflow/pressure relief pipe outlet of some sort fitted when I had the system converted to a sealed one about 15 months ago. Because of the bend, it obviously hadn’t been pushed out from the loft but pushed in from the outside. I don’t remember scaffolding being erected so no song and dance from the installer about 'working from height'. He'd obviously taught himself to climb a ladder and stay on it without falling off. Pity BG can’t do the same with their installers.
You didn't tell us the boiler is in the loft. How much clearance is there between the house wall and the boundary? It may not sufficient for a ladder.

Sorry. Thought I had. In my first post I did mention about them wanting handrails fitted around the loft hatch before they would work in there.
Ive probably about 8ft between the wall and boundary. When the boiler was fitted 26 years ago, I helped the bloke fit it and I went up on ladders to drill the hole out myself. In fact, I drilled the hole and mounted the boiler then got him round to plumb it all in. I also fitted the aerial you can see at a later date, again, from ladders. Getting access to there with ladders is not a problem. I’d fit the bloody collar/make good myself for £600 but they wouldn’t want that, would they?

Yes it is about a duty of care for their employees
Working from a ladder is a choice the self employed amongst us make after weighing up the risks and applying common sense to the situation.
I would be perfectly happy to work on that flue from a ladder. I would also chose a better product because drilling a new flue hole through that wall would take twenty minutes. Assuming I couldn't get an Eco RF in and use the same hole still.
With my ninja skillz too, I wouldn't even need a ladder if I could reuse the hole.
Probably doesn't "need" scaff tower unless there's something restricting the ladder access at low level. Usually only stick a scaff tower on round here if theres a conservatory/lean to under the flue terminal or its 3 story or more.

I used to go up ladders to all sorts of heights and angles, even jockied the ladder across whilst up there if I needed to slightly adjust my position.
Then, about 2 years ago at the top of a particularly precarious ladder, I had an epiphany... my 46 year old ringpiece spoke to me and said “you’re more important to your family than doing this sh!t to earn a few quid by saving a customer money, to get the work”
I still use ladders but “I” make the choice if it needs scaffolding. BG can’t insist that their employees go up ladders and none of them will risk injury for a MacJob and I don’t blame them... as the HSE posters, in all staff rooms, reminds employees “Safety is YOUR responsibility!”
Sky have announced that they are doing away with their satellite and going over to internet delivery of their services... I would imagine that cutting down ladder work was a big part of that decision... their insurers must have had to pay out a hefty amount over the years and their premiums must be “Sky high”!

That’s known as a “long term relationship” and in your case... they’d need the ladder
It’s funny how that particular voice gets louder as you get older. I’m starting to get that way nowdays but when we first moved into this house in 1990, I wanted to set up my satellite dish from my old house onto my chimney breast on the top of the roof. I didn’t have any satellite location equipment so after mounting my dish and pointing it roughly in the right direction, I then lugged the receiver and a 20” telly (no flat screens in those days, proper square ones they were) up to the top of the roof, set it all up and fine tuned it in. I got a bit engrossed in a cricket match on Sky so I watched it for a while and got some funny looks from people walking by.
Been there, done that... although I didn’t take the tv and receiver up there lol... just shouted down to the Mrs who told me “yes, no, yes, no”.... just like normal bedroom talk really
if you don't like their quote go elsewhere, but don't slate them off for wanting to keep their engineers safe

Best advice youll get here,please have a different attitude when you call in others to estimate.Please dont act the customer from hell and a
ing know it all git . Many installers will walk away and forget you.Look at around £2k to do your boiler chop and the necessary alterations,cost could increase due to your Uk location but knowing your attitude most installers would require full cash payment up front. its called a contract.

I haven’t got a problem at all with any employer wanting to keep their workers safe. I think you have a problem with me questioning whether it’s reasonable for a company to ask £600 to put a up a tower for less than a hours work. I will go elsewhere and I will find one that doesn't want a £600/hr tower because, as you can see, there are installers on here that would do it without one. If they said a couple of hundred quid, I wouldnt even question it but £600 is just taking the ****.
Why? Because I didn’t just accept their quote and because I question their pricing structure? Tough. It’s not my job to keep BG shareholders happy...Bet Bg shareholders love you
