The Company, Crawford & Co are legit

In the UK they are a big player in "Insurance Loss Adjusting"

This company is a global player, owned and operated from the USA, they also get into other totally legit areas of operations.

How do I know, ?

I worked for them as a Loss Adjuster and Subsidence Engineer. for over 2 / 3 years

gone are the days when encrypting data batters the web server’s resources that it makes sense to have only certain areas of a site do https and other areas http. It now takes more effort than its worth to maintain the split, so sites generally just use https across the entire thing and be done with it

Good point but SSLs that cover sub-domains are more expensive. Granted the cost is a drop in the ocean for larger firms.

When I had my own VPS, I could install certs for free but on my shared hosting account, the installation cost is $100 and then there is an additional monthly fee for the dedicated IP address, and when the cert expires you have to pay to have the new one installed.

I am not criticising Google et al, but telling the public that a static not for profit site that has no cookies/etc is not secure (with the implication that they are possibly malicious) is going to unnecessarily scare a lot of surfers.

5 years ago that was the case but most hosting providers use cPanel and most now let you install your own Cert, you can even generate them for free either autossl from cPanel or lets enrypt so zero cost and all modern browsers accept SLI which means you don't even need a dedicated IP Address so the cost is ZERO for most people.

Lets encrypt and Autossl for cpanel even autorenews the SSL when due and auto installs it you can get this sort of hosting for about £40-80 a year for a small static site ss there is no excuse any more for a site not to be encrypted, even small wordpress sites can be hosted for this sort of cost.

Thanks for the heads up. I need to look into it.

My US based shared (cpanel) hosting package still charges $115 to install a cert. Although I have WHM it is a stripped down version (ie less capable than the WHM I had on my on VPS. I am clearly out of the loop and need to look at AutoSSL, many thanks.
