Swapped car charger for outdoor socket - reduce mcb rating?

i recently replaced my 7.2kw electric car charger with a 13a outdoor socket as we’re moving next week. The car charger had a 40A mcb fitted in the consumer unit and I am wondering if it is safe to leave it at 40A, or replace it with a 16A version?

If it helps, the outdoor socket has a 16A rcbo built into it already.

Yes, you can leave the 40A MCB in place - assuming 6mm² cable runs to the socket.

The front can be changed to a variety of different sockets and connectors. Top half includes a suitable RCBO for EV charging.

That photo is the exact outdoor socket I have put on in place of the electric car charger. It is a rather elaborate outdoor socket, but it fitted the same baseplate as the charger so avoided leaving holes in brick wall that buyer would want fixed.

So due to the 16A rcbo being fitted (as pictured), the 40A mcb is ok to stay? (yes, the wiring is 6mm)

If you did the latter you would need to apply for Building Regulations approval in advance.

I assume the casing can be adapted for EV use as well as normal outdoor power, reading reg 722.55.101.0.201.1 it states a BS 1363-2 socket needs to be marked EV on its rear end if used for EV charging, whats the point of that.
Is it just a warning that its connected to a type A Rcd
I admit i am not too clued up on type A and type Ac Rcd's, but assume either Rcd type is suitable for a normal, non EV use as the Op has left it.

The 16 amp is irrelevant, the RCd side is important.
The fact that the cable is rated for 40 Amp and the plugs will be 13a fused maximum is why the 40 amp Mcb can stay.
