Hi guys, my boiler was doing it since I bought the house a year ago but now it is doing it more often and all night. Before it kicks in it is making a scratching noise, hard to describe. I tried to show to my gas engineer but of course it was fine when he was at my house. Maybe it is normal for ****ty Ideal Isar boilers. I managed to record it

Any ideas?

that sounded like a partially blocked feed pipe to the expansion vesssel or the prv releasing. do you have to keep topping up system pressure?

I had to top up a few days ago, but recently I installed 2 new radiators and had to drain the system, there was a little bit of air in the system after installation so after draining air pressure dropped obviously.
Another weird thing, it is only starting like this if it is controlled by thermostat. It kicks in for a one minute and stops, and after 5 minutes kicks in again. When I raise the temperature on thermostat to force start, it is not making scratching noise

I was replacing auto air vent on one of these and accidentally dropped a small screw right down into the heat engine by mistake.

Would occasionally get a noise like this, thankfully it made its way and got caught in pump housing so managed to remove.

Possibly similar happening here

Could be diverter valve when changing from ore heat to radiators. Was it d in display then changed to c when it made noise.

I agree, had one making this exact same noise last week,it was the diverter motorhead.

Engineer turned up, investigated and the verdict was - actuator valve head. Advised me not to spend 250 quid on repair, save money and wait until the boiler brakes, then get a new Vaillant with 10 years warranty parts and labour. Didn't charge me a penny as well

Whit!!!!!!!
The part ranges from £10-£90 on eBay and is a 5 minute fit.

yeah retail price for gas engieer is over 100 quid easy plus his time

They are about 170 retail for the honeywells which make the noise so it’s not really ott as a retail price is it?
Full valve or just actuator. It’s only the actuator that’s faulty.

Take it back!!! Retail FFS
